November 9, 1966 <br /> <br /> • The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the <br /> public notice of th4 hearing on the application of First Parish Church for a Certificate <br /> of .Appropriateness with respect to the erection of a building on land contiguous to <br /> the church building premises on Farrington Ready which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Present ware `ffilbur M. Jaquith, Chairman, Philip B. rarsons, Secretary, Georg® E. <br /> Graves and Associate Commissioners Garl E. Bryant and Donald B. White. <br /> Tho chairman asked the commission members to use a "check list" on the hearings <br /> this evening and to make recommendations on its usefulness in preparing certificates. <br /> He further stated that he had received a letter from the Board of Selectmen stating <br /> that two new Associate Members had been appointed to the commission: George Emery and <br /> Monroe Hamilton. <br /> The chairman read the notice of hearing and the letter of application received <br /> from the chairman of the Building Gome,ittee of the First Parish Church. He further <br /> stated that the commission had met informally with the Building Committee on two <br /> occasions. Mr. Parker Hirtle, Chairman of the Building Committee and Mr. Bednarski, <br /> Architect of 318 Main Street, Greenfield, were greaent in behalf of the applicant <br /> and submitted three sets of drawings a.nd a rendering to the commission.. The commission <br /> members asked. many questions and viewed slides of the property in question. <br /> D6r. John Blackwell and John Sampson, 8 Bedford Str st, Members of the church, <br /> spoke in favor of the application. No one else wiaB:ing to be heard, the hearing was <br /> adjourned at 9:45 Y.M. <br /> Tha commission discussed the application in question and agroed to adjourn the <br /> hearing. until 7:30 P.i4i. on tyodnesday, November 16, 1966, in the Selectman's Room. <br /> In the meantime they will view the site in question. <br /> Hearing was held at 9:45 Y.M. on the application of Monument Realty Trust, <br /> John E. Nosing, Trustee, for a Certificate of Appropriateress with respect to changes <br /> in the exterior architectural features of the property and the erection of signs on <br /> the premises at 18 Mu zzey Street, which is within the Battle Green District. The <br /> chairman stated that Max H. Straw aryl. Donald B. ~dhite will act on this application. <br /> ~~he chairman read th® notice ofhaaring and the letter of application dated <br /> October 17, 1966. itr. John E. Booing arrl his architect, Mr. Peter Thomas, were prosant <br /> in behalf of the application and showed the commission drawings of the proposed <br /> alterations and signs, Many questions were ask®d, and the hearing was adjourned at <br /> 10:50 P. M• <br /> Upon motion duly made and s®condod, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate <br /> of Appropriateness to Monument Realty Trust, John E. Booing, Trustee, with respect to <br /> the erection and display of a diroctory sign at 18 Muzzay Street, whim is within the <br /> Battle Green District. <br /> The commission agreed that further action would be taken with regard to the <br /> exterior architectural features of the property after discussion at its meeting on <br /> November 16, 196b, <br /> The chairman stated that maps are now available for the new Historic Districts. <br /> He stated that he had reports to m eke for 1966, including the Town Report, Budget <br /> andapace requirements.
