August 4, 1966 <br /> The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the <br /> public nstice of the hearing on the application of the Board of Selectman for a <br /> Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection and display of two signs <br /> ®n the Buckman Tavern grounds, which is within the Battle Green 1~istrict. <br /> Present were wTilbur `~aquith, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth Cr. <br /> Bevan, Max H. Straw and Associate C®m~rdssioner Donald B. Afhite, also present at the <br /> fsll~ring hearings were Lee E. Tarbox of the Chamber of Commerce, Leslie York of the <br /> Public Facilities Committee and Mrs. Ge®rge P. Mercy of the Lexington Historical <br /> Society. <br /> The chairman read the notice of hearing. Mr. Robert Cataldo of the Board of <br /> Selectmen appeared in behalf of the Town of Lexington and presented the commission <br /> <br /> with scale drawings of the proposed sign and showed the commissi®n photographs of the <br /> sign at the proposed locations. Many questions were asked Mr. Cataldo and the hearing <br /> xas adjourned at 8:115 P.~b. <br /> Upon motion duly mach and seconded, it was unanimously VOTF,D to issue a <br /> Ce rtificato of Appropriateness to Town of Lexington with respect to the erection and <br /> display of two signs by the applicant on the Buckman Tavern grounds on Me.ssachusetta <br /> Avenue and Bedford Street, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Hearing was held at 8115 P. BE. on the application of The Hoard of Selectmen for <br /> a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the construction of a temporary, <br /> experimental stretch of sidewalk to be located in the vicinity of the neer Tourists' <br /> Center, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> The chairman read the notice of hearing aYxt !I~r. Catald© represented the Board <br /> of ~alectmen on this application and showed the commission the 4Parren Bros. Roads <br /> Co.rpany sample of the proposed asphalt to be used in this sidewalk. The commission <br /> members asked questions, and the hearing was adjourned at 9s05 P.?3. <br /> Upen m©tion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificato <br /> of Approg~iateness to Torn of Lexington with respect to the construction of a <br /> temporary experimental sidewalk on the Buckman Tavern grounds on Massachusetts Avenue, <br /> which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Hearing was held at 9x05 P.ird. on the application of Lexington Chamber of <br /> C®mmerce for a Certificato of Appropriateness for the removal of the Information <br /> Building located on the Buckman Tavern property at the junction mf Meriam Street and <br /> Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green vistrict. <br /> The chairman road the notice of hearing and Mr. Lee E. Tarbox of the Lexington <br /> Chamber of Commerce appeared in its behalf. Mr. Tarbox stated that the Information <br /> Building was no longer needed in view of the now building. Mr. Cataldo stated that <br /> the 13oaxd of Selectmen were unanimously in favor of its removal. 4uestions were asked <br /> by the commission, and the hearing was adjourned at 9s10 P.~E, <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED tea issue a Permit <br /> for Removal to Lexington chamber of Commerce for the removal of the Information Building <br /> located on the Buckman Tavern grounds at the intersection of Meriam Street and <br /> Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Hearing was held at 9s10 P. M, on the application of The Lexington Historical <br /> Society for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the maintenance of a sign <br /> on its preoprty at 36 Hancock Street, which is within the Hancock-Clarke District. <br /> <br />
