J ' <br /> May 25, 196b <br /> The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the <br /> <br /> • public notice of the hearing on the application of The Church of Our Redeemer for a <br /> Certificate of Appropriate~ss with reaped to the construction of a payed parking area <br /> with gates and appurtenances on its property at Mariam Street aril Patriots Drive <br /> which is within the Battle r*reen District. <br /> Present ware Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Ruth G. <br /> Bevan, George E. C,rav®s and Wilbur Jaquith and Associate Commissioner Max H, Straw. <br /> The chairman read the letter received from Robert A. Bittenbender, Junior Warden of <br /> The Church of Our Redeemer. Bar. Bittenbender was present in behalf of the application <br /> and presented the commission with a plot plan showing the areas to be paved. Many <br /> questions were asked by the commission members. The hearing was adjourned at 8:15 P. M. <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue a certificate of <br /> appropriateness to The Church of Our Redeemer with respect to certain sidewalks, a <br /> parking lot, certain plantings and grass areas and certain gate posts and chain to be <br /> located between the rear of the existing church structures on the southwesterly aids <br /> of Mariam Street and the rear property line of the church on Hancock Street, which is <br /> within the Battle Green District. <br /> Hearing was held at 8:15 P.M. an the application of Trustees of the 1775 Realty <br /> Trust for a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the amendment to Certificate <br /> of Appropriateness No. 157 previously issued with respect to the erection of a one story <br /> building on the lot which is bounded soutlnresterly by Massachusetts Avenue and north- <br /> westerly by Depot Square, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Present i_n behalf of the applicants were Charles H. Cole, Architect, and Frederick <br /> J. Conroy, Attorney. Yr. Cole submitted to the commission a scale drawing showing the <br /> four el®vations of the building, Many questi®ns were asked and the hearing was <br /> adjourned at 8;30 P.M. <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to issue an amendment to certificate <br /> of appropriateness to Hugo Maiensa, James Stevens, Joseph Trani, Trustees of the 1775 <br /> Realty Trust with respect to the exterior architectural features of the one-story <br /> building referred to and described in Certificate No. 157 issued by the Coma:i.ssian under <br /> dat® of February 5, 1966. <br /> Present at the meeting was Mr. Paul Po;~d of Riles Company, agents of Battle <br /> Green Apartments. Mr. Boyd introduced Mr. and Mrs. 5undhauss, residents of the apartments. <br /> Mr. Boyd stated complaints regarding the appearance of the Stop & Shop buildings and <br /> showed the commission photographs. The chairman stated that only the signs on the <br /> Worthen Road aide of the building came under the jurisdiction of the Historic Districts <br /> Commission, and the commission would contact Stop & Shop in this regard. <br /> Mr, Jaquith-read the letter received from Street & Company with regard to <br /> alterations to the building at 1$10 Massachusetts. It was agreed that the chairman <br /> write a letter to Mr. direst indicating that a public hearing would be necessary. <br /> Upon motion duly malde and seconded, it was VOTID that Ruth G. Bevan be Chairman <br /> Pro Tempore for further consideration of the application of Alan G. Adams and Rebecca <br /> .Adams with respect to the proposed building at 9 - 11 Mariam Street, Mr. Jaquith <br /> withdrew from the meeting and from any consideration of this application. In his <br /> absence Mr. Grant designated Mr. Straw to fit in his place. <br /> <br />
