April 6, 1966 <br /> • The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place specified in the public <br /> notice of the hearing on the application of Mervin L, Hathaway for a Certificate of <br /> .pppropriateness with respect to changes in the exterior architectural features of the <br /> premises at 1l~0l~ Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Munroe Tavern District. <br /> Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip B. 'arsons, Secretary, Ruth G. <br /> Bevan, George Graves and Associate Commissioner Max H, Straw. <br /> The chairman read. the notice of hearing. 2~r. Mervin L. Hathaway was present in <br /> behalf of the application and stated. the proposed changes to be made on his dwelling, <br /> Mr. Hathaway introduced Mr. William Lynch of Carlton Construction, Inc., who stated <br /> that his company plans to place aluminum siding on the dwelling and showed the <br /> commission samples of the siding. Photographs were also viewed of the above dwelling <br /> and the changes were indicated. The hearing was adjourned at 3:~0 P,r. <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate <br /> of Appropriateness to Mervin L. Hathaway with respect to changes in the exterior <br /> architectural features of the dwelling at 1lt0l~ Massachusetts Avenue, which is within <br /> the Munroe Tavern District. <br /> Present at the meeting was Mr. Alan G. Adams and .Architect Charles H. Cole who <br /> stated that they wanted to show the commission a scale drawing of the proposed building <br /> to be erected at 9 - 11 Meriam Street, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Public hearing will be held on this application on Wednesday, May 4, 1966. <br /> Dr, James A, naycox of 1377 Massachusetts Avenue was also present at the meeting. <br /> Mr: Grant stated that he had written Dr. Haycox a letter on March 25, 1966, with regard <br /> to the placement of propane tanks near the rear of the property at 1377 Massachusetts <br /> Avenue. Discussion was had with regard to a solution to the placement of these tanks, <br /> and it was agreed that Dr. Haycox would contact Suburban Gas Company, the Fire <br /> Department anti the contractor to find a means of conceling them from public view. It <br /> was agreed that Dr. Haycox meet with the commission on May 1~, 1966. <br /> Mr. Robert Catal do of Gold Ribbon Farms was present at the meeting and dhawed the <br /> commission a copy of the scale drawing of the sign he intends to repair at 1265 <br /> Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Meznroe Tavern District. It was agreed <br /> that hearing be held on May 1966, <br /> Mrs. Bevan stated that she had been asked by ~'rs. Georg® Morey of the xistorical <br /> Society about the possibility of using a temporary fence near the excavation of the <br /> Hancock-Clarke house. It was agreed that the erection of the fence would require a <br /> public hexing, <br /> Mr. Straw indicated an error in the minutes of March 9, 1966, and the clerk was <br /> advised to correct the time in tho fourth paragraph to read 8:25 P.NR. instead oJ' <br /> `3 :15 P. <br /> The baring was adjourned at 10:30 Yy~i~~~_"''~` ~ <br /> <br /> • Phili~ Parsons <br /> Secretary <br /> <br />
