Y <br /> A <br /> February 2, 196b <br /> The Historic Districts Commission met et the time and place specified in the public <br /> notice of the hearing on the application of The Greek Orthodox Church of Lexington for <br /> a Certificate of Appropriateness with respect to the erection of a sign at the corner <br /> of Meriam Street and Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> t'resent were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip B• rarsons, Secretary, Ruth <br /> Bevan, George E. Graves and Associate Commissioners Donald B. White and Nix H, straw. <br /> The chairman read the letter of application received from Mr. Nicholas Prasinos, <br /> Attorney f®r The Greek Orthodox Church. Present in behalf of the applica~hi~ was Dr, <br /> Charles Mooney, 11145 Massachusetts Avenue, who showed the commission the proposed sign <br /> intended to be placed at the above locationR questions were asked Dr. Mooney by the <br /> commission members. <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate <br /> of Appropriateness to Greek Orthodox Church of Lexington with respect to the erection <br /> and display of a sign which is to be located on the present street sign pole on the <br /> northeast corner of the jur_etion o£ Meriai< Street and ~dassachusetts Avenue and immediately <br /> below the sign which presently appears on said pole, which is within the Battle Green <br /> District. <br /> Hear ing was held on the application of Lloyd D. Tarlin, Trustee of Athens Realty <br /> Trust,.. for amendment of an existing certificate of appropriateness for the installation <br /> of an exterior pick.-up conveyor and for a change in signs for the premis a which front <br /> on both Bedford Street and YYorthen Road, which is within the Battle Green District. <br /> Due to Mr. Grants conflict of interest on this application, Ruth G. Bevan was <br /> unanimously elected Chairman Pro Tempore. Mrs. Bevan read the letter of application <br /> dated January 10, 1966, from John W. Silva, Manager, Manning arts Engineering Department. <br /> Mr. Silva appeared in behalf of Stop & Shop and showed the commission sketches of the <br /> proposed signs and the conveyor to be used in coimection with their new store. Mr, <br /> David Sawyer of University Sign Company was also present and presented the commission with <br /> the samples of plcxiglas to be used in the signs. Many questions were asked by the <br /> commission members and the hearing was adjourned at 81140 P,P~, <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to issue a Certificate <br /> of Appropriateness to Trustees of Athens Realty Trust with respect to the erection <br /> and display of signs on the property which faces both Bedford Street and Worthen Road ~ <br /> and for the installation of an exterior pick-up conveyor on these premises, which is <br /> within the Battle Green District. This certificate am4ends and modifies Certificate N®, <br /> 137 in so far as said certificate pertained to signs to be erected by the applicant. <br /> Mr. Grant stated that he had received a letter from Henri Hairstylists, Inc, <br /> requesting a certificate of appropriateness. Hearing will be held on 1R'ednesday, <br /> March 9, 1966. <br /> Mr. Grant read a letter received from Street & Company, Inc., managers of Felix. ~ <br /> Realty `T'rust property at 1798 Ma.ssachus~tts Avenue, requesting permission to install <br /> a mail box in the door at the above address, It was agreed that the chairman would <br /> <br /> ~ite a letter to ter. Street informing him that a hearing would not be necessary, <br /> Present at the meeting was Charles H. Cole, Architect, for 1775 Realty Trust, Mr. <br /> Grant read the original application dated October 19, 1965,. and stated the changes made <br /> in the application since that date. Mr. Cole presented the commission with a sketch <br /> of the four elevations of the proposed one story building..
