July 31, 1961
The Historic Districts Commission met at 8:00 P. M. on
Monday, July 31, 1961, in the Selectmen's Office, Town 0fice
Building.
Present were Donald E. Legro, Philip B. Parsons, Stcretary,
Cyrus Wood, and Associate Commissioners Charles H. Cole and
Ralph A. Burnham. In the absence of the chairman, it was voted
to appoint Donald E. Legro, Chairman Pro Tempore.
Hearing was held at 8:15 P' M. on the application of
William A. Moore for a certificate of appropriateness for the
display of a sign at 9 - 11 Depot Square, Lexington, which is within
the Battle Green District.
The chairman dispensed with the reading of the notice of
hearing. Appearing in favor of the application was Mr. William
A. Moore, who presented a scale drawing of the proposed sign.
Questions were asked by_ various members of the commission. The
hearing was adjourned at 8 :20 P. M.
On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimous ~ly VOTED
to grant to William A. Moore a certificate of appropriateness with
respect to the display of a sign on the premises at 9 - 11 Eepot
Square, which is within the Battle Green District.
Hearing was held at 8 :20 P. M. on the application of lelix
Realty Trust for a certificate of appropriateness with respect to
changes in the exterior architectural features on the premises at
6 - 8 Muzzey Street, Lexington, which is within the Battle Green
District.
The chairman read the letter of application. A drawing
was submitted and the applicant was represented by John E. Burbidge,
Builder, who stated that the only change in the exterior architectural
features presently proposed to be made was the installation of two
windows in place of the four windows on the first floor of the
front of the building, and further stated that the windows to be
installed were not to be as shown on the drawing, but that they were
to be approximately eight feet wide by 5 feet 7 inches high and
approximately four lights high and six lights wide.
Questions were asked by members of the commission. Appearing
in favor of the application were Arthur and Florence fernier, 296
Bedford Street, Lexington, who are renting the first floor of the property
as of August 1, 1961. No one appeared in opposition. The hearing
was adjourned at 8:40 P. M.
No drawing showing the changes as proposed to be made having
been presented at the hearing, and the verbal description of the
changes being inadequate for the determination of the commission,
it was VOTED that we defer decision on the application of Felix
Realty Trust pending the submission of a scale drawing showing the
front of the building at 6 - 8 Muzzey Street, as it will appear after
the changes proposed to be made have been completed, and to hold a
meeting of the dommission on August 14, 1961, at 8:00 P. M. for the
purpose of further discussion and decision.
