October 5, 1960 <br />The Historic Districts Commission met at 8:00 P. M. on Wednesday, <br />October 5, 1960, in the belectmen Office, Town Office Building, Lexington. <br />• Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip b. Parsons, Secretary, <br />Donald E. Legro, Cyrus wood, and Associate member '-harles H. Cole. <br />Hearing was held at 8:00 P. M. on the application of Lexington <br />Theatre for a certificate of appropriateness as to the continued display <br />of the exis +ing sign at 1794. Massachusetts Avenue, which is within the <br />Battle Green District. <br />The chairman read the published notice and the letter of application. <br />Mr. Arthur Howe, representing Mr. Feeley as Manager of Lexington Theatre, <br />appeared in behalf of the application. questions were asked by various <br />memoers of the commission. <br />The applicant expressed himself as being content to have the <br />commission consider his application as consisting of separate applications <br />for each of the four signs appearing on the colored p hotograph which were <br />discussed at the hearing and which appear in the colored slide in the files <br />of the conilnission, and which were aiscussed at the hearing. he four <br />signs specifically discussed were the illuminated sign approximately <br />eight feet by four feet over the doorway to the theatre and used for <br />advertising the motion picture currently displayed; the sign bearing the <br />words "The Lexington" also located over the doorway; and the two separate <br />attraction displays approximately fourteen inches by thirty -six inches <br />located on the front wall on either side of the doorway. <br />The commission considered the relative size, the color, style, <br />materials End word content of the four vErious sic.ns, tc%eth r with the <br />purposes for :,hich they F re diso1 yed:.
