August 9, 1960 <br />The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place <br />specified in the public notice of the hearing on the application of <br />0 Mrs. George E. Smith for a certificate of appropriateness to change <br />the exterior architectural features of the building at 9 - 11 Meriam <br />Street, which is within the Battle Ureen District. <br />Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip D. Parsons, S;cretary, <br />Edwin B. Worthen, Jr., Cyrus Wood and Associate Member Charles H. Cole. <br />Absent was Donald E. Legro. <br />The chairman read the letter of application received from Mr. Lane <br />E. Wheaton, and the published notice. Mr. Lane E. Wheaton appeared in <br />favor of the application and spoke in behalf of the application. Also <br />present was Mrs. George E. Smith. The applicant presented samples of <br />shingles to be used in re- shingling all exposed sides of said building. <br />Questions were asked by various members of the commission. The hearing <br />was adjourned at 8 :20 P. M. <br />On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to grant <br />to Mrs. George E. Smith a certificate of appropriateness for the removal <br />from the building of the small windows formerly used as ventilation for <br />horse stalls, and the re- shingling of all exposed sides of said building <br />and of the smaller building attached thereto on the southerly side of <br />the building located at 9 - 11 Meriam Street, which is in the Battle <br />Green District. All shingles are to be number two, square butted, cedar <br />shingles as per samples submitted and are to be stained with a dark brown <br />oil stain. All doors, sash and trim appearing on both buildings are to <br />be painted white. <br />Hearing was held at, 8:30 P. M. on the application of Tucker's of <br />Lexington, Inc., for a certificate of appropriateness for the erection <br />and display of two signs on the premises at 9 Muzzey Street, which is <br />within the Battle Green District. <br />The chairman read the letter of application received from Norman <br />Espovich, Attorney from Newburyport, and the published notice. Appearing <br />in favor of the application were Mrs. Tucker, Norman Espovich Attorney, <br />and Larry Fone, Architect. Mr. Lone explained his very detailed drawings <br />of the proposed signs, and questions were asked by various members of the <br />commission. The hearing was adjourned at 8:55 P. M. <br />On motion made and duly seconded, it was unaimously VOTED to grant <br />to Tucker's of Lexington, Inc., a certificate of appropriateness for the <br />erection and display of two signs on the premises at 9 Muzzey Street, <br />which is within the Battle Green District. <br />The chairman reported that letters regarding the sign by -law adopted <br />by the Town of Lexington on May- 12, 1958 had been sent out to the various <br />tenants in the Historic Districts. Replies have been received from <br />Depositors Trust company, Lexington Cleansers & D yers, and Douglass <br />Funeral service. Hearings are to be held on Thursday, September 8, 1960, <br />along with an application from Lexington Federal Savings and Loan Assn. <br />The meeting was adjourned at 9 :45 P. M <br />Philip D.
