• • <br />June 30, 1960 <br />The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place <br />specified in the public notice of the hearing on the application of <br />Frederic R. Childs on behalf of Godfrey, Hamilton, Magnus & Co., <br />Incorporated, for a certificate of appropriateness for the erection <br />and display of a sign on the premises at 27 Depot Square, which is <br />within the Battle Ureen District. <br />Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, philip b. Parsons, <br />secretary, Edwin B. Worthen, Jr., Donald E. Legro, and Cyrus Wood. <br />The chairman read the letter of application received from <br />Godfrey, hamilton, Magnus & Co., Incorporated, and the published notice. <br />Mr. Frederic R. Childs, appeared in favor of the application in behalf of <br />Godfrey, Hamilton, Magnus & Co., Incorporated. A note was received <br />from John r'. MacNeil in favor of the granting of the application. <br />The applicant presented a sketch (numbered 2) prepared by Newton - <br />Norman Co., showing the sized and proportions of the particular letters <br />as well as the two choices of colors. Questions were asked of the <br />applicant by various members of the commission. The hearing was <br />adjourned at 8 :15 P. M. <br />On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously voted to <br />grant to uodfrey, riamilton, Magnus & Co., Incorporated, a certificate <br />of appropriateness for the erection and display of a sign on the premises at <br />27 Depot Square, which is within the battle Green District, said sign is <br />to be as appears on sketch numbered 2, prepared by Newton - Norman Co., <br />submitted by the applicant at the hearing; the sizes and proportions of <br />the particular letters are to be as shown on said sketch; the color of <br />the letters is to be the shade of gray which is marked "lst" choice on <br />the sketch; and the background of the sign is to be the existing color <br />of off -white or cream presently appearing on the signboard over the window <br />and doorway of the location. <br />Mr. Robert L. blanchard appeared before the commission at <br />approximately 8 :15 P. M. with revised plans of his proposed dwelling at <br />1310 Massachusetts Avenue. At this time Mr. Arnold E. Howard sat on the <br />commission in place of Donald R. Grant, Mr. Howard having sat at the first <br />hearing. Donald E. Legro acted as Chairman Pro lempore. Questions were <br />asked by various members of the commission. <br />On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously voted to rescind <br />the vote of the commission to deny the application of Robert L. Blanchard <br />for a certificate of appropriateness to erect a dwelling at 1310 Mass. Arenue. <br />On further motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously voted <br />to grant a certificate of appropriateness to Robert L. Blanchard to erect <br />a dwelling a 1310 Massachusetts Avenue in accordance with the elevations <br />submitted on June 1, 1960, as modified by the drawings submitted to the <br />meeting of June 30, 1960. <br />The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P. <br />Philip b. rarsons, hbcretary <br />
