• • <br />• December 29, 1959 <br />• <br />The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and <br />place specified in the public notice of the hearing on the <br />application of the Cary Memorial Library Building Addition <br />Committee to demolish or remove the existing flagpole in the <br />grass plot in front of the main entrance to the Cary Memorial <br />Library at 1874 Massachusetts, and to erect a new flagpole <br />at said location. Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairmen, <br />Philip B. Parsons, Secretary, Edwin B. Worthen, Jr., Donald <br />E. Legro, and Cyrus Wood. <br />The Chairman read the letter received from Mr. Belding, <br />the Chairman of the Committee, dated November 25, 1959, and <br />questions were asked by various members of the commission. <br />On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously <br />voted to grant to the Cary Memorial Library Building Addition <br />Committee a permit for the demolition or removal of the <br />existing flagpole at the above location. <br />On further motion made and duly seconded, it was <br />unanimously voted to grant a certificate of appropriateness <br />to the same committee for the erection of a 30 O" tapered <br />steel flagpole to be painted white, and with a six inch <br />diameter gold ball on the top, in the approximate center of <br />the grass plot at the aforementioned location. <br />The Commission was joined by Mr. Stevens, Town Counsel, <br />with whom there was discussion about various problems and <br />
