• • <br />Sept. 10, 1959 <br />The Historic Districts Commission held a public hearing <br />Thursday, September 10, 1959 in the Selectmen's Room at 7 : <br />P.M. on the application of the Minute Man Auto Supply for a <br />certificate of appropriateness for the erection of a sign on the <br />building at 18+5 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, which is with- <br />in the Battle Green District. Sitting on the Commission were: <br />Donald R. Grant, Philip B. Parsons, Edwin B. Worthen, Jr. and <br />Associate Members Charles H. Cole and Carl E. Bryant. <br />Mr. Donald R. Grant was elected Chairman Pro Tempore of the <br />Commission, until such time as the Commission has five regular <br />Commissioners and can then elect a permanent Chairman. <br />Mr. Grant read the notice of the original hearing which had <br />to be postponed (August 20) due to the fact that only four members <br />could attend the hearing. He also read the notice of the post- <br />poned hearing, which was held September 10, 1959. <br />Mr. Edward W. Batten of Batten Bros. Inc., 893 Main Street, <br />Wakefield, who represented the company who were making the sign, <br />appeared. No one appeared from the Minute Man Auto Supply and <br />there was no one else present. <br />The proposed sign is white metal with black lettering, a <br />gray border and gray shaded lines on back side of each letter of <br />the first two words. The proposed sign is to be across entire <br />front of store. It is 24 -gauge metal. The words ' Man <br />were in script and the rest of the sign in block letters. <br />. MEETING: There was a very long and thorough discussion of the <br />sign. It was felt the letters were too high and too wide; that <br />
