Special
PLANNING BOARD MEETING
Tuesday, April 8, 1952
Present: Adams, Hathaway, Irwin, Johnson, Ripley - Burns.
A special meeting of the Lexington Planning Board was held jointly
with representatives of the Bedford, Concord, and Lincoln Planning Boards
on Tuesday, April 8. Meeting opened at 8 o'clock.
The various Boards were represented as follows Lincoln, 14% Ward,
Mr. Giles, Mr. Howard; Concord, Mm. Kent, Mr. True; Bedford, Mr. Englehart,
Mr. Balfour.
Chairman Adams explained the purpose of the meeting as given in de-
tail in the records of special meeting of April 3. It was stated that the
price of the rentals mentioned was based on 25% of salaries; also that the
units should be within 1/2 hour drive of place of employment. Private en-
terprise has been given the first chance to bid on this housing, but if it
doesn't do the job the project will be turned over to government housing.
Mr. Kelly states that the price of the land with water, sewer, etc., is too
high to build houses at the limits set forth.
It was agreed that district cooperation is essential. There is
quite a bit of territory of each town surrounding the air port and it might
be wise for each town to set aside certain areas in which the zoning laws
could be modified if necessary. It was suggested that a Planning Commission
might be feasible, expense to be shared, whereby the chairmen of each Board
would work with a paid man. It should be possible to complete plans in two
or three meetings.
It was also suggested that a letter be sent from each Planning Board
to Mr. Dobbs, asking that top prices be raised.
Thursday evening, April 10, was tentatively set as date for next
meeting of chairmen at Town Office Building, Lexington.
Meeting adjourned at 9:45 o'clock.
Donald D. Hathaway,
Clerk
Zmb
