Unanimously voted.
H,G.Allei}-U-.s.A F.
Mr. H. G. Allen of the Corps of Engineers, U.S.A.F... appeared to
explain plan of Federal developments in this area and their effect on Town
of Lexington with regard to water, sewerage, eto.
He explained that the time element is of great importance, and
that any decisions by the Town will have to be made within eix weeks. It
isexpected that the Air Force will have 3,000 troops in by the end of a
Year with another 5,OW civilian employees at M.I.T. and Research labora-
tory. The present plan is to tie in Hanscom Field and laboratory sewerage
with the M.D.C. in Arlington using the B & M right -of -may, with a 12" pipe
being used. It would probably be satisfactory to have the Town of Laz1W
ton tie in with this provided they pay the difference in expenses involved
in using a larger pipe.
It is expected to take the water from the Town of Lexington's
metropolitan supply.
With regard to fire, they will have their own elevated tank and
hydrants, but will need assistance by mutual aid from Bedford and laxing-
ton. There will undoubtedly be a.government fire department in time.
Traffic will create a problem. The M.I.T. group will use one gate,
Research laboratory another gate, and it is figured that approximately 700
care will be using Wood Street morning and night. There is no authority
for contribution to roads by this project.
