PLANNING BOARD IMTING
December 30, 1946
Present: Messrs. Worthen Nickerson F'er son Houdlette Richards and Cromwell.
The Board studied a revised layout of the Poor Farm property and marked
it "Planning Board, December 30, 19.4.6." It approved the new layout subject to
the following: It seemed best to eliminate the four back lots and add them to
the recreational area; to reduce the width of the entrance to the back lots from
40 feet to 20 feet; to eliminate one of the footpaths to the back property; to
shorten the deep lot running into the east end of the enlarged recreational area.
tbt with P;1r.Roland Greeley to discuss the complication involving the en-
trance to the Ryder property on Waltham Street. Learned that Mr.Greeley's com-
mittee had finished its work and that we would have to obtain information on
actual location of the school from Charles Davis or his committee. Decided to
confer with Mr.Davis and if necessary to get outside assistance in laying out new
entrance to Ryder property.
1/7et with Selectmen. They felt that the proposed apartment zmne was un-
desirable and that it would be better to make this a business area and to extend
business areas further down Waltham and Muzzey Streets than as shown on plan
proposed by Edwin B.Northen and Planning Board said apartment zone was not vital.
Selectmen suggested that parking might ultimately be extended into the block to
the west of the proposed new street.
Mr.Paxton suggested it would be better to take 15 or 20 feet off of the
southerly side of IvIazzey Street rather than to take any of the bank's property
to widen Muzzey Street.
Selectmen favor more business zone than Planning Board had suggested.
They favor land takings but not any immediate construction.
Selectmen approved Planning Board idea of requiring builders of new
property to provide own parking area.
Selectmen urged Planning Board to do something about loophole in the by-
law that requires 100 foot frontage only when a building is erected.
Selectmen asked Board to continue investigation of Ryder matter and
approved of our obtaining outside assistance.
The meeting adjourned at 10 p.m.
T
romwell
Clerk
