PLANNING BOARD MEETING
October 15, 1916
Present: Messrs. Ferguson, Nickerson, Richards, Houdlette,
and Worthen.
Recreation Facilities
Meeting was called at 8:00 p.m. in the Selectmen's
Room for the purpose of hearing the Committee on Recreational
Facilities (Mr. Gustin, Chairman) which has been appointed
following a vote at the last annual town meeting.
The Committee is interested in playgrounds, as dis-
tinguished from park areas; these playgrounds to be of
ample size, well distributed and equipped, with complete
supervision. It is their thought that a separate recreation
department should be created, with a Director of Recreation,
to avoid over -lapping and conflict caused by the juris-
dictions of the Park Department, Supt. of Public Works,
and the School Department. The committee has investigated
the situation in other communities, but has not arrived at
a definite recommendation.
The Planning Board reviewed at some length the various
projects which have been considered or recommended in the
' past years, and what progress has been made. The Board
also stated, in reply, that it felt that it was the committee's
duty to set the playground standards, to locate these areas,
and to work out the proposed administrative body. The Plan-
ning Board, however, wishes to cooperate to whatever extent
is possible, and to this end offered to prepare a map
(based on the subdivisions of the past year) indicated in
what localities it anticipated a future population growth.
It was also suggested that Mr. Gustin's committee confer
with the Committee On School Sites.
The Committee retired at 9:30 p.m.
Mr. R. L. Ryder - Cary Farm Subdivision
Mr. Ryder appeared before the Board with a preliminary
layout of proposed subdivision of a portion of the Cary
Estate belonging to Lexington Estates
Trust. Plan dated
June 18, 1946; A. A. Miller, Scale 1"
: 80 feet.
Area comprises the interior land
to the south and
east of the Cary Kansion, and bounded
by lands of others
fronting on Marrett Road, Cary Avenue,
Shade Street, and
Spring Street. Approximately 90 lots
are shown, of
minimum area, and street plan has egress
to Shade Street
and Marrett Road.
The Board approved the layout in
its preliminary
aspect.
'
For further consideration by the
Board; •:
