PLANNING BOARD MEETING <br />I <br />July 2, 1946. <br />Present: Messrs. Worthen, Ferguson, Richards and Houdlette <br />A. E. Rowse: Signs <br />Mr. Rowse, of the Board of Selectmen, appeared before the Board <br />at 8:00 p.m. to discuss further the question of signs on business <br />buildings to which this Board had previousl recorded itself as <br />opposed to any relaxation of the articles in the Building By-law. <br />Mr. Rowse stated that he favored either a complete enforcement of <br />the By-law as it stands, or an amendment which would permit neon <br />signs - which require, under accepted methods of installation, <br />greater than the 6" allowable projection. Considerable discussion <br />followed regarding the wording and reasons for the By-law, without <br />an agree*tn)being reached. Further consideration is to be given to <br />this matter by this Board; with a definite recommendation if <br />possible. <br />Castle Road <br />Mr. -�W. H. Lyon, representing the owner Mr. Baskin, and Mr. <br />' Albert Miller, appeared before the Board at 9;00 p.m. to present a <br />preliminary subdivision layout of the former "Blake Meadow" and <br />adjacent property, bounded by Franklin Road, Somerset Road, Hayes <br />Avenue and Meriam Street. <br />Castle Road is laid out 501 wide, and follows approximately the <br />present foot -path, as originally planned by Whitman and Howard. A <br />total of 24 lots are indicated, with an average area well in excess <br />of 20,000 sq. ft. <br />Mr. Lyon stated that boringshad been taken, indicating gravel <br />on the edges of the land, and peat through the center swale - <br />approximately where the old drains exist that were put through by <br />the Town in former years. <br />The Board approved the lotting as shown, and advised study <br />to be madecf services, which were not indicated. The question of <br />sewer and surface drainage therefore was discussed, and it appeared <br />feasible for these to be developed and tied in properly. <br />Parking Area <br />The Chairman reported that he had met with the Selectmen as <br />directed, and spoke briefly of the results of this conference. <br />Next Meeting <br />The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at 8:00 p.m., <br />' at which time the following subjects are to be considered: <br />1.) Parking Area <br />2.) Signs <br />3.) Trailers ( as used for purposes of habitation, and relation <br />of building by-law) <br />
