1
C
1
MEETING OF PLANNING BOARD
August 13, 19JO
Present
Messrs. Worthen, Richards, Ferguson, Houdlette and
Cromwell.
Subdivisions
The Board met with Mr. Cosgrove, the Town Engineer, to
consider a plan of proposed subdivision of land bounded by Spring,
Grassland, Valleyfield and the Concord Turnpike. The plan was
marked as follows: 'Design for Subdividing Land in Lexington,
Massachusetts, Scale 1 inch equals 100 feet. July, 1945. Fred A.
Joyce, Surveyor, Belmont, Massachusetts."
It was decided by the Board to advise Mr. Cosgrove as
follows:
The Board feels very strongly that the plan should be
altered to provide for a 40 -foot road parallel and adjacent to
the side line of the Concord Turnpike on the northerly side.
The Board recommends that the plan be altered so as to
eliminate the entrance to the Concord Turnpike.
The Board recommends that the plan be altered so as to
provide a more "interesting" and less conventional street plan
In the area adjoining Spring Street. It f eels the appearance of
the development would be improved, for example, by having one of
the proposed streets running into Spring Street curved instead
of straight.
Among various factors entering into the Board's conclusion
were the followings
1. Concern over lack of assurance that the proposed
reserve strip next to the Concord Turnpike would
be properly maintained.
2. Concern as to the danger in having an entrance into
the Turnpike, as proposed, when automobile traffic
recovers.
3. A belief that the residential qualities of the
subdivision would be improved if it were impossible
for trucks and other vehicles to cut through to the
