MEETING OF PLANNING BOARD
January 8, 1945
Fire Stations
Mr. George Emery, representing the Fire Er*ineers, met with
the Planning Board to discuss possible locations for a fire station in
West Lexington. In response to Mr. Emery's request for the Board's
opinion, the following action was taken.
Voted: To reaffirm the Planning Boardts recommendation of
last year that the site to be chosen be the area between
the intersection of Marrett Road and Bridge Street.
Voted: That the Planning Board does not favorable regard
as a site the area.on Marrett Road next to the old reser-
voir on the side nearest Waltham Street.
Weighing_; in the conclusions of the Planning Board were the
following considerationst
1. The recommended site is in a business zone.
2. The area next to the reservoir is park land and it would, I therefore, be necessary to get an act of the legislature
to release it for the purpose in question.
p/ 3. Property owners near the parr=land have built homes in
the belief that they will always be near a park. It would
be unwise to disturb these property owners unless in case
of a great need.
4. Regardless of any other consideration the recommended
site seems the better one for location of a fire station.
It provides better access to the highway, affords a bet.
ter view in all directions, and in general seems an ideal
site for a fire station..
Planning Board Members
Mr. Greeley resigned as Chairman of the Planning Board.
Mr. Worthen was elected Chairman.
Advance Programming and Budgetting
It was decided to ask Mr. Nickerson if he would continue for
the coming year the work on Advance Programming and Budgetting.
11
