MEETING OF PLANNING BOARD
February 28, 1944
Present: Messrs. Greeley, Ferguson, Worthen, Nickerson,
Richards & Cromwell.
Larchmont Lane
The Board viewed a plan entitled "Proposed Sub-
division of Land in Lexington, "scale 1" equals 401,
drawn by Everett N. Bi&ooks. The plan showed the existing
lines of Larchmont Lane. This street is now 25 feet wide.
The plan showed in white lines a proposed relocation of
the street lines which would provide for a 40 -foot right
of way. Superimposed was a modified layout in red lines
also providing a 40 -foot right of way.
Mr. Cosgrove advised the Board that he had
taken up the proposed layout, as modified by the red lines,
with the interested property owners and that they all
expressed their approvals.
' The Board_ voted its approval of the 40 -foot
layout as modified by the red lines.
Central Fire Station
Mr. Richards reported that Archie Bullock,
Police Chief of Arlington, had expressed views unfavorable
to placing a combined fire and police station on the Barnes
property. He strongly felt there would be friction among
the firemen and police. He also strongly felt a police
station should be on a side street to provide greater
privacy for local citizens who might have business there,
either enforced or voluntary.
Mr. Worthen reported several conversations with
authorities in nearby towns were all unfavorable to a
combined station.
Mr. Greeley had talked with Captain John Stokes
of the state police who expressed great disapproval of
any plan to combine the police and fire departments under
one roof.
' Mr. Ferguson reported. conversations with outside
local authorities who believed a combination would be bad
on the grounas that it would tend to reduce the privacy
of citizens and promote gossip on local disturbances.
