u <br />1 <br />PLANNING BOARD MEETING <br />April 1, 1936 <br />Present:- Messrs. Borden, Ellis, Ferguson, Nickerson, Sellars <br />and Kimball. <br />Mr. Borden read a letter from Mr. Duffy acknowledging <br />that of the Board upon his retirement, and in which the former <br />Chairman offered several suggestions bearing on future plann- <br />ing work. Mr. Borden expressed the opinion that really ef- <br />fective planning could only be accomplished through a system- <br />atic program and the following subjects were offered for con- <br />sideration. Allocation of the projects is to be made to in- <br />dividual members for their direct promotion, <br />The Cambridge Turnpike <br />The Lowell Turnpike <br />Watertown Street as a Memorial Drive <br />Lot Frontage <br />Brooks and Low Lands. <br />Proposed Street between <br />The Great Meadows <br />Town Meeting h1ap <br />Depot Park Committee <br />Playgrounds <br />Planning Lesislation <br />Clarke & Waltham Streets. <br />Planning <br />Projects <br />A proposal by the Field & Garden Club to sponsor a con- <br />test in senior and junior classes of the High School covering <br />an essay with accompanying plans, on the development and con- <br />trol of the area adjacent to the Concord Turnpike was discussed <br />and approved. Mr. Kimball was appointed to act as the Plann- <br />ing Board representative on the general committee for arrange- Concord <br />ments. The opinion was expressed that the contest should be Turnpike <br />outside the regular studies, that the judges should consist <br />of one from the Field & Garden Club, the School Committee, the <br />Planning Board and the Board of Trade, and that care should be <br />exercised that the program be submitted with a broad point of <br />view. <br />The development of a 200 scale map to be used at Town <br />Meetings was considered and the clerk instructed to determine Town. Map <br />the details incident to obtaining such a map as a W:.B'.A. pro- <br />ject* <br />Note, 4/6/36:- Projects were set up as follows: - <br />The Cambridge Turnpike - Messrs.
