PLANNING BOARD 196TING
January 23, 1935
A regular meeting of the Planning Board was held in the
Conference Room of the Town Office Building on Wednesday. Jan-
uary 23, 1935 at 8:00 P. M. Messrs. Duffy, Ellis, Greeley and
Kimball were present.
The minutes of the January 16th meeting were read and
accepted.
Pursuant to the suggestions in regard to the New Highway
of the January 16th meeting, Mr. Duffy expressed the hope that,
by planning out the property adjacent to the highway, much
could be done in the nature of protecting the highway; that by
careful planning of intersecting and intercepting streets, and
of lot layouts, many parts of the highway could be preserved
more or less in the nature of strips of parkway.
It was the sense of the meeting that time Board should
consider carefully the possible development of all lands abutt-
ing on both the new highway and on proposed Route #128; and to
that end, the Board felt that it would need more generour co-
operation from the Engineering Department. The Clerk was in-
structed to confer with Mr, Trask on the question of engineer-
ing services for the Planning Board.
A brief discussion of the Hoar Bill showed the Board to
' feel that, although the Billboard provisions might be defeated
by the General Court, it was, nevertheless, good judgement to
leave them in the Bill, hoping that they might get through.
In regard to the location of the new High School, it was
pointed out that the Planning Board had given only slight
thought to it, that the Board had not officially had any
communications in regard to it, that no members of the Board
knew what had been done by the Special Committee in regard to
the selection of a site, and that Mr. Duffy had expressly not
represented the Planning Board when he met with the Special
Committee.
It was felt that, in choosing the school site, many other
factors must be considered, such as population, finances,
drainage and sewage, and park and playground facilities, as
well as the general plan of development of the Town. If the
proposed site is near or in land needing to be drained, the
whole treatment of such an area should be carefully considered
before the project is put Linder way.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 P. M. until January
30, when the Planning Board will meet with the School Committee.
Respectfully submitted,
' Roland B. Greeley (Signed)
Clerk
Concord
Ri ghway
High
School
