PLANNING BOAED MEETING
January 12, 1934
A meeting of the Planning Board was held in the Conference
koom of the Town Office Building, Friday, January 12, 1934. Messrs.
Duffy, Glynn, Robinson, Kimball, and Scheibe were present. Piessrs.
Longbottom and 1,addison were also present.
The matter before the Board for discussion was the Zoning
Law.
Mr. t,laddison stated that there is an amendment to the Build-
ing Law having a Board of Appeals serve as Board of Appeals for
the building matters.
Mr. Longbottom stated that in cases where he refused a
permit telling the party they would have to go before the Board
of Appeals, they always said they did not want to wait two or
three weeks for such action and have gone to the Board of select-
men and had the question settled.
Mir. I,iaddison read a new section which is to be substituted
for the present Section 16 of the By -Law, drawn up by Mr. "irighting-
ton, and he stated that he thought the present Section 16 definite
enough and unless ir. 1'Irightington has some definite idea for
the change, would like to see it remain as it is.
ivir. Duffy thought this section an important matter, that
the citizens were entitled to a definite statement as to their Proposed
rights and that these rights should be specified in the law.
Lir. Glynn felt that Section 16 did not conflict with Chap-
ter 40 but made it more explanatory.
F,,'r. Longbottom stated that he did not see any objection
to signs ten to twenty feet from the street but almost every Amendments
filling station is violating this law as there should not be
signs within 20 feet from the street line, and every case he
has brought before the Board of Selectmen regarding this, they
have let pass.
i,r. Duffy informed hire that the intent of that law was to
avoid placing within front ,yard area substantial structures
which would obstruct the view, or in case the Town might widen
the street.
Mr. Longbottom suggested that the Town Engineer put in
stone bounds pointing out C. 1 districts as he could not tell
exactly where their boundaries were.
Mr. Duffy informed him to study this matter with the Town
Engineer and give a list of places where he felt the boundaries
were indefinite.
Mir. Robinson suggested that the Town Engineer make a large
scale map with the zones clearly defined and Mir. Duffy stated
that he had suggested that at the time the laws were drawn up
and because it would take some time to do this, it was decided
that this could be covered on a small scale map.
' The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 P. M.
Respectfully submitted,
Clerk
