PLANNING BOARD ItiIEETING
December 20, 1932
A meeting of the Planning 3oard was held in the Conference
Room of the Town Office Building, Tuesday, December .20,, 1932, at
8:00 P. Iii. 1,essrs. Emery, Milne, Glynn, Scheibe and,j)uffy were
present. The Town Engineer and secretary were also present.
Mr. Emery stated that he had talked with Mr. Shurtleff in
regard to Vine Brook and found that there are four kinds of
'JJ111o,ms: Common, White., Laurel Leaf and Weeping, and that within
the last few years a blight has taken them so they have to be
sprayed, The trees should be planted 40 to 50 feet apart for the
edging effect over a brook or walk. He suggested planting a Maple
after every two 'Nillou°Ts so that if anything happened to kill out
"'Dillow
the 'a'Jillows, the Maples would still be there. Fie also stated that
Trees
there should be only one foot elevation or less because when the
for Vine
time comes to grade, it will affect the growth of the trees. The
Brook
Town Engineer should determine the distance between the trees so
that the steam shovel when excavating would not interfere with tle m.
He did not think ills assistance would be needed as the Town 'Engineer
could handle the situation.
3
Mr. Cosgrove informed the Board that he had attended the meet-
ing of the I>iass. Federation of Planning Boards held in Boston, Dec-
Pdass.
ember 14th, and stated that before spring they intend to call two
Federa-
or three meetings of the associated Planning Boards and organize
tion of
to put bills into effect.
Planning
Boards
Ivr. Trask advised him that
Lex.
the Planning Board had given its decision and the Board. of Survey
Brick
would back it up and if 'oe wanted any further action he would have
Village
to present another plan to the Planning Board showing a different
entrance to the property.
1,1r. Duffy stated that he had discussed the matter of unemployed
engineers with the Emergency Planning and Research Corporation and
found that they would ask for a contribution from the Town. He read
a letter which he drafted to Itiir. Trask on this subject. The corp-
oration will expect the Town to cooperate with diem in the matter
of expense, because there are three men who are Lexington citizens
on their list. The rate of pay is $12.50 per week. This money would
have to be taken out of the Welfare Fund.
viir. 1,1ilne stated that he thought the Board should make a Emergency
decision on some definite object it wants done and finished. T;r. Planning
Cosgrove said. he thought the work in connection with the extension Researc
of the sewer system starting at the Arlington Reservoir was important Corp.
and they needed topographical maps which were made by going out over
the work.
Mr. IvAlne also presented a letter which he wrote to the Select-
men in regard to the matter in question and the Board voted to accept
it.
The Towp Engineer presented the Board with copies of "Sewers
& Assessments for discussion, he stated that he thought the rate
sewer assessment was too low and that he would like to see the assess-
ment 100`a instead of 509/o. It would be better to assess 100% on Sewer
lateral sewers than 50"0 on trunk lines and laterals as is now being Assess -
done . mo nt s
