II
PLANNING BOARD MEETING
November 21,1932
A meeting of the Planning Board was held in the Conference
Room of the Town Office Building, Monday, November 21, 1932 at 8;00
P. M. Messrs. Emery, Scheibe, Duffy and Milne were present. The
Town Engineer and secretary fere also present.
The Town Engineer presented a plan showing how he extended
Cherry Street to Sylvia Street instead of making an additional en-
trance to mass. Avenue. This plan will give the owner no direct
way to get into the property without going through some other prop-
erty. Cherry Street is thirty-five feet wide and in poor condition.
It is thought that the idea of having to go through other property
will not be so favorable to prospective buyers. A street entering
Mass. Avenue at this point would be dangerous because the grade which
would be at least 10;?. The distance from Sylvia Street to Charles
Street is 780 feet and from Sylvia Street to the proposed street,
215 feet.
Relative to the petition of Harry E. Johnson of Arlington,
Mass., for approval of layout for a tract for;erly known as the
Star Realty Company land, being a narrow strip fronting at one end
upon Mass. Avenue between Sylvia Street and Charles Street and
close to the former and extending rearward and upward onto the
hill for a distance of approximately 1200 feet, the Planning Board,
after careful consideration and study of the plan for layout sub-
mitted by said Mr, Johnson and drawn by Frederick Joyce, C. E.
dated , upon motion duly made and seconded, unanimously voted
its unwillingness to recommend a layout such as that presented by
the Joyce plan referred to that makes necessary an additional
street to enter upon Mass. Avenue between Sylvia Street and Charles
Street and within approximately 215 feet from Sylvia Street, because
of the danger to traffic and individuals entering upon the proposed
street from traffic upon Mass, Avenue, Particularly would another
street at the point contemplated be dangerous because of the very
steep grade upon the proposed street (approximately 10o at best)
adjacent to the junction point.
If the 'Down can be saved from any outlay in connection Star
therewith, the Planning Board is willing to recommend a layout alt
such as indicated upon the sketch presented by the Town Engineer Realty
_$
and entitled "Alternative Sketch of Star Realty Development With
No Outlet to buss. Avenue. Scale In - 40 1 , November, 1932.
The Town Engineer is requested to get in touch with the
owner of the adjoining property to the north with vk w of as-
certaining if such owner will co-operate with the petitioner, Mr-.
Johnson, in plotting the layout last above referred;) presented by
the Town Engineer and then to communicate with the petitioner and
obtain if possible his acquiescence in the plan last above referred
to drawn by the Town Engineer, He is also requested to communicate
with the owner of the land between that of the petitioner and Sylvia
Street in the vicinity opposite the end of the proposed street para-
llel to Mass. Avenue with a view to extending such street through
to junction with Sylvia Street.
