A regular monthly meeting of the Board of Health was held
on Friday, November 16, 1956, at 3 P.M. in the Selectmen's
Room, Town Offices. Chairman McQuillan, Dr. Cosgrove, and
Executive Health Officer Lurvey were present.
Letters have been coming in slowly from the Lexington Hospital':
doctors re their opinion on the need for a community hospital
in Lexington. Mr. McQuillan suggested a duplicate question-
naire letter be sent to the doctors who have not as yet answered
stating that a meeting is to be held with the Selectmen and
Planning Board on December 3, and we would like to have their
opinions and suggestions for that meeting.
The appropriations for 1957 were discussed, approved, and
signed to be submitted to the Board of Selectmen for the meet- Appro-
ing on Monday, November 19. Dr. Benton's were approved with priatiapl
the rest for Animal Inspector and the Dog Clinic. Mr. McQuillan
is sending a letter to the Board of Selectmen and to the Appro-
priations Committee askingfor raises in salary for Mr. Lurvey
(7%)and Mrs. MacDonald ($4) with the Board's approval.
The Board approved paying two-thirds of the bill from Haynes
Memorial Hospital for Janice Wing...4578.04.
Regular bills were approved to the amount of $1707.50, and
the Polio Program Payroll, $350.43, for clinics on September 22, Bilis
October 6 and 15, November 15 and 17.
Mr. Francis M. Taylor, 16 Eldred Street, Lexington, has
asked for help in securing admittance to the Middlesex County
Sanatorium, as a tubercular patient. His legal settlement is
in Boston, Suffolk County, and this requires that he go to the
Mattapan Hospital. Mr. Taylor's problem is that even though
his hospital insurance would cover his fees at the Sanatorium
Dr. Dawson of Middlesex County Sanatorium says he is not allowed
by law to admit patients with outside settlements. Mr. Lurvey
is to talle the matter up further with the proper authorities.
Mr. McQuillan asked if December 14 would be agreeable for
the December meeting as he expects to be out of town on the
regular date. The Board agreed.
Bill
Mr. Kraynick, the Whitman & Howard engineer taking Mr.
Capone's place, was introduced to the Board members. Mr. Lurvey
says he does a fine job and is a great help to him on the engi-
neering problems of tests and sewage disposal installations.
Mr. Lurvey is to ask the Public Works Department to bring
the map in the Selectmen's Room up to date on sewer installa-
