HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-07-20276 Swine BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING July 20, 1956 A regular monthly meeting of the Board of Health was held in the Selectmen's Room of the Town Offices on Friday, July 20, 1956, at 3.P.M. Chairman McQuillan, Dr. Cosgrove, Mr. Cole, and Mr. Lurvey were present. As no meeting is usually held in August, it was decided to have a special meeting the first Friday in September, the 7th, to attend to matters that may come up in the interim. There was some discussion on the matter of keeping swine, now that the town has grown so much, and the case of Mr. Dailey was talked over. Mr. Dailey, 114 Marrett Road, has been keeping pigs again, without a permit. Mr. Lurvey is taking care of the matter, and is to give Mr. Dailey notice that the pigs must be disposed of within a specified time. Walnut Farms, the Potters, still keep swine, but the Board feels that it is only a matter of time before the neighbors will bring pressure to bear. Three applications for permits for Rendering, Rubbish Permits Removal, and Sewage Removal, were received from Bay State Tallow 'Company, Abattoir Avenue, Brighton, Sullivan Trucking Company, 64 Paul Revere Road, Lexington, Joseph App, 855 Main Street, Wilmington. These were approved and signed by the Board. An application from Mrs. Clara Stanley, 20 Parker Street, Home for for renewal of her permit for a Home for the Aged was signed Aged by the Board as approved. This application comes from the Permit Division of Hospitals, Department of Public Health, Common- wealth of Massachusetts, to be approved by the local Health Department. The question was raised by the Board as to whether Wild Wild Acre Inn, 50 Percy Road, should have a permit from the Health Acre Inn Department. Mr. Lurvey will check on this. The Inn has been a rest home or nursing home for years, and perhaps should have Board of Health check-ups for health and food. standards. 3 No word has been beard from Mr. Friel, Paul Revere Road, Paul as to a report from an engineer for a workable plan for sewage Revere Rd. disposal on his lot at 3 Paul Revere Road. Mr. Harold Stevens, Town 'Counsel, notified the Board that Hospital no liability for help in the payment of a hospital bill for Bill Janice Wing, under Children's Aid care, is required of Lex- ington as the settlement is not in Lexington. The S'anitarian's Report was read and discussed. Mr. Lurvey reported that with a Make -Up Clinic on Tuesday, Polio July 24, the Polio Program for second inoculations will be Program finished until after school opens. 2117 were given shots at the 8 clinics held in July. Another make-up clinic will be 1 1 1 held after school opens, for those who missed the summer inoculations. It is expected that vaccine will be avail- able for the older group of children,15 to 20 years old, in the fall. Another appropriation will probably be needed, if we are to do more inoculations. Regular bills were approved by the Board Middlesex County Sanatorium, June Lexington Visiting Nurse Assn., June Mass. Agricultural Experiment Station (Babcock Inspection) Dog and cat burials Whitman & Howard (July 24) 277 - Total, $1024.36. $159.00 175.00 3.50 4.00 680.98 Bills We seem to be staying within our budget for the different items, including the special polio appropriation. A big Budget engineering bill will probably come shortly, as we have had no bill since June 20, 1956. The meeting was adjourned at 4.15 P.M., but Mr. Reed, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, joined the Board for an informal discussion of town affairs, i.e., the garbage collection situation, and a proposed meeting of the Board of Health with the Planning Board to discuss future sewerage plans for the town.
