97 <br />SELECTMEN'S MEETING <br />February 21, 1949 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was <br />held in the Selectmen's Room on Monday evening, February <br />21, 1949, at 7:30 P.M. There were present: Chairman <br />Paxton, Messrs. Emery, Gay, Driscoll and Nickerson. <br />The Clerk was also present. <br />Mr. DeFoe met with the Board for the purpose of <br />discussing budgets. The Chairman instructed him to ad- <br />vise the Veteran's Administration that unless the Board <br />of Selectmen hears from them immediately with reference <br />to the bid for the installation for the water main on Water for <br />Bedford Street there is a possibility that this will Bedford <br />be indefinitely postponed at the Town Meeting in March. Hospital <br />Mr. DeFoe retirecbat 8:50 P.M. <br />The Chairman read a letter from Mr. Arthur F. <br />Lorentzen advising the Board that they are troubled Complaint <br />with surface water settling on their property and running <br />into the cellar. The Clerk was instructed to refer the <br />matter to the Supt. of Public Works. <br />A letter was received from Goldie E. Powell, 16 <br />Burlington Street, requesting permission to enter the <br />sewerage system inasmuch as she is havingilouble with her <br />septic tanks. The Clerk was instructed to give the Supt. <br />of Public Works a copy of this letter and ask for a report. <br />A letter was received from Mrs. George Greenlaw, Jr., <br />requesting permission to use the Barnes property for a Barnes <br />runage sale, the proceeds to go to the Lexington Community <br />Nursery School. Mr. Emery moved that the request be grant- property <br />ed. Mr. Gay seconded the motion, and it was so voted. <br />An application was received from Mrs. Lily Chafe, 1109 <br />Massachusetts Avenue, requesting permission to use the <br />Barnes property for a rummage sale on April 8th, the pro- <br />ceeds to go to the Church of our Redeemer. Mr. Emery moved <br />that the request be granted. Mr. Gay seconded themotion, <br />and it was so voted. <br />The Chairman read a letter from Edward J. Ippolito <br />registering a complaint about the plumbing at 95 Spring <br />Street. The Clerk was instructed to give a copy of the <br />letter to Mr. Lindstrom. <br />Sewers <br />Plumbing <br />Complaint <br />A letter was received from the Town Clerk to which Board of <br />was attached a copy of a letter received from Carl W: Health <br />Terhune as a member of the Lexington Board of Health. <br />The appointment of a new member to the Board was held <br />over. <br />
