42 <br />SELECTMEN'S MEETING <br />January 8, 1949 <br />A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was <br />held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building on <br />Saturday morning at 9:45 biclock. Chairman Paxton, Messrs. <br />Every, Driscoll and Nickerson were present. The Clerk <br />was also present. <br />The Chairman read a letter from the Town Counsel <br />advising that the case of the Town of Lexington v. Thomas <br />Morrison was disposed of in the Middlesex probate Court <br />on Monday, January 3, 1949. A decree was entered <br />enjoining Morrison engaging in the business of con- <br />ducting auction sales of horses, cows or other cattle at <br />139 Spring Street. <br />The Chairman read a letter from the Town Counsel <br />advising that Chesley W. Teele had initiated action <br />against Paul W. Franks and the case is now ready for <br />trial. Mr. Lynck has had several conferences with <br />Teele's counsel and the case can now be settled by <br />paying Mr. Teele $100. In view of the circumstances, <br />Mr. Lynch recommended that the case be closed by pay- <br />ment of $100 to Mr. Teele. <br />Mr. Every moved that, in view of the recommendation <br />of the Town Counsel, the case be closed by payment of <br />$100 to Mr. Teele. Mr. Nickerson seconded the motion, <br />and it was so voted. <br />Application was received from Mrs. Hattie Peckham, <br />37 Hancock Street for the renewal of a Common Victuallerts <br />license. <br />Mr. Emery moved that the license be renewed. Mr. <br />Driscoll seconded the motion, and it was so voted. <br />Application was received from Veterans of Forgign <br />Wars, Post # 3007, requesting permission to conduct a <br />mil,itary ball in Cary Hall on Monday evening, April 18, <br />1949, from S:00 P.M. until 1:00 A.M. <br />Mr. Every moved that the use of the hall be grant- <br />ed and considered one of the Post's free uses. Mr. <br />Nickerson seconded the motion, and it was so voted. <br />Budgets were then considered. The Board discussed <br />the Assessors' Personal Services Account, particularly <br />the salary of the present Assistant to the Secretary. <br />The Board felt that ultimately the Assistant will assume <br />the position of Secretary. It was decided that his salary <br />from January 1, 1949 (43 weeks) be figured at $55, plus <br />cc <br />1 <br />
