170 <br />SELECTMEN'S MEETING <br />January 4, 1947 <br />A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was hell <br />in the Selectmen's Room on Saturday afternoon, January <br />4, 1947 at 2:00 p.m. Chairman Potter, Messrs. Locke, <br />Rowse, Sarano and Paxton were present. The Clerk was <br />also present. <br />At 2:00 p.m. Chief John W. Rycroft appeared before <br />the Board and budgets for his department were considered. <br />Upon motion of Mr. Paxton, seconded by Mr. Sarano it <br />was voted to authorize the Chief of Police to sell, at the <br />present time, the 1942 Chevrolet Master 2 -door sedan, and <br />the allowance is to apply towards the purchase of a new <br />car if the money is made available at the annual Town <br />Meeting in March. <br />Chief Rycroft retired_:at 2:35 p.m. and Mr. John J. <br />Garrity, Supt.of Parks and Playgrounds appeared before the <br />Board. Budgets submitted by Mr. Garrity were discussed <br />and he retired at 3:20 p.m. <br />Mr. Joseph H. DeFoe, Supt. of Public Works appeared <br />and budgets under his jurisdiction were discussed at <br />length. <br />Mr. Paxton suggested that theclerks in the Public <br />Works Department, with the exception of the clerk in the <br />Water Department be carried in one personal serviced <br />budget. Mr. DeFoe agreed that this was a constructive <br />suggestion. <br />Mr. Paxton also suggested that the Chapter 90 <br />budget be included in Highway Maintenance, and not have <br />a separate article in the warrant for Chapter 90. <br />Removing snow from in front of business establishments <br />and gasoline stations was condidered. The Board authorized <br />the Supt. of Public Works to have snow removed from <br />gasoline stations and garages only at the corner of, <br />Woburn Street and Fletcher Avenue, Massachusetts avenue <br />and Bedford Street. <br />Account <br />Budgets were acted upon as follows: <br />Requested Approved <br />Town Offices & Cary Memo. <br />Bldg. -Personal Services <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
