62 <br />SELECTMEN s S MEETING <br />January 20, 1945. <br />A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen:Pas <br />heldin the Selectmen's koom, Town. Office Building, en <br />Saturday afternoon, January 20, 1945, at 2:35 P.M. <br />The members were notified of this meeting by a notioe <br />mailed January 18, 1945. Chairman Locke, Messrs. Potter <br />and Serene were present. The -Clerk was also present. <br />Mr. George_ W. Emery appeared before the Board at <br />2:35 P.M. Mr. Emery presented a schedule showing the <br />comparison between the salaries paid to the members of <br />the Lexington Fire Department and the_salaries•paid in <br />four or five surrounding Towns as follows: <br />Lexington Reading Stoneham iNesdhani Wellesley Winchester <br />Senior <br />Private 2518.50 2431. 616904 2400, 2(C0. 2S 006 <br />Lieutenant 2635,50 2546. 2700. 2600. 2560. <br />Captain 5478.50 2662. 2900. 2800. 2650. <br />Dep. Chief 3175.00 2778. 3000. <br />Chief 3009. 322) 0. 3300. 3700. 3260. <br />Waster <br />Mechanic 2.633.50 <br />Above figures ar.e for the calendar year 1944 and <br />all include aome.peroentage_-of bonus except Reading, <br />Which has given three .5% raises during the :.last three years. <br />All above Towns.. are. asking for increases for 1945, but <br />in no caseis it decidedas yet. <br />Mt. Emery stated that_ according to thea:• :figures <br />the members of the Lexington Fire Department have been <br />underpaid. He stated that the itema.which the Board of <br />Fire Engineers would like.and,are really very desirous <br />of having are as follows: 1. That the Fire Department <br />be shown the same consideration as the School Department <br />relative to the general principles of raise vz. bonus. <br />24 Revised step rates as indicated at_the last meeting, <br />viz: $5.50 per day, first_ year; $6.25 per day, second year; <br />and $7,00 per day, third year and thereafter. 3. <br />Differentials of. approximately $150.00 between ratings <br />of°rivates, Master.Mechanic, Lieutenants and Captains. <br />The Chairman asked nhetber or not the $150.00 <br />differentials was in effect at the present time, and <br />Mr. Emery replied in the negative stating that the amount <br />was probably $100.00. <br />
