*x* <br />SELECTMEN'S MEETING <br />March 13, 1944 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was <br />held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, <br />on Monday, March 13, 1944, at 7:15 P.M. Messrs. Rowse, <br />Potter, Locke, Sarano and Sheldon were present. The <br />Clerk was also present. <br />It was decided to postpone organizing the Board <br />until the next meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 14, <br />1944, due to the lack of time before Town Meeting. <br />Mr. Rowse acted as Chairman. <br />Application was received from Gretchen B. Reed <br />for permission to use Estabrook Hall on March 27, 1944, <br />from 2:30 P.M. until 4:30 P.M., for the purpose of <br />organizing a Lexington League of Women Voters. <br />Mr. Potter moved that the use of the hall for <br />this purpose be denied. Mr. Sarano seconded the motion, <br />and it was so voted. <br />Mr. Rowse read a letter from John Lamont, Health <br />Inspector, stating that the cesspool on the property at <br />84 Baker Avenue, Lexington, owned by John A. and <br />Katherine A. Hilton of 70 Baker Avenue, was overflowing <br />and causing a condition which is a menace to the <br />public health. Mr. Lamont stated that Mr. Hilton had <br />been requested to abate the nuisance, and given a ten- <br />day period in which to comply with the request. He <br />inspected the premises again today and found the <br />condition unchanged. Mr. Lamont recommended that the <br />Board of Selectmen, acting as the Board of Health, <br />order that the condition be abated immediately. <br />Mr. Potter moved that John A. and Katherine A. <br />Hilton of 70 Baker Avenue, Lexington, owners of the <br />property at 84 Baker Avenue, be ordered to remove the <br />nuisance and source of filth within three days from <br />the date of service of the order. Mr. Sheldon seconded <br />the motion, and it was so voted. <br />Letter was received from Stewart Cairns, Radio <br />Aide of the Lexington Committee on Public Safety, <br />requesting that the renewal application for the A.R.P. <br />radio's be signed. <br />Mr. Sheldon moved that the license be signed. Mr. <br />Locke seconded the motion, and it was so voted. <br />Letter was received from Rev. William J. Desmond, <br />requesting permission to conduct the Sacred Heart Church's <br />Annual Carnival on the Viano grounds, East Lexington, <br />the week of June 11, 1944. <br />429 <br />Use of <br />Hall <br />Hilton <br />Cesspool <br />Menace <br />Order <br />Letter was received from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, <br />Department of Agriculture, approving the nomination of Chester L. <br />Blakely as Inspector of Animals for the Town of Lexington. <br />Mr Potter moved that Dr. Blakelybe ap ointed Inspector of <br />Animals for the year endingdMarchi 31, 1945.
