SELECTMEN'S MEETING <br />January 3, 1944 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was <br />held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, <br />on Monday evening, Jammmy 3, 1944, at 7:30 P.M. Chairman <br />Rowse, Messrs. Potter, Locke, Sarano and Sheldon were <br />present. The Clerk was also present. <br />At 7:30 P.M. hearing was declared open upon the <br />petition of the Boston Edison Company and the New England <br />Telephone & Telegraph Company for joint locations of <br />poles along the following public Ways: Bedford Street, <br />northeasterly side and northwesterhyfrom a point approxi- <br />mately <br />proxi <br />mately 100 feet northwest of Harding Road, two (2)ppoles; <br />Bedford Street, northeasterly side and southeasterly from <br />a point approximately 375 feet southeast of Tewksbury <br />Street, three (3) poles. <br />No persons appeared in favor or in opposition of <br />said poles. <br />Mr. Locke moved that the locations be approved, and <br />the order signed. Mr. Sheldon seconded the motion, and <br />it was so Voted. <br />At 7:31 P.M. Mr. Carroll appeared before the Board <br />for the drawing of one Juror. <br />Mr. Oscar F. Anderson, Contractor, 45 Banks Avenue, <br />was drawn to serve on Criminal Business, First Session <br />at East Cambridge, February 7, 1944. <br />Mr. Carroll retired at 7:32 P.M., and Mr. Paxton <br />appeared before the Board. <br />Mr. Paxton said that the Lexington Firemen's <br />Benefit Association had requested the use of Cary Hall <br />on February 4, 1944, from 8 P.M. to 1 A.M. to conduct <br />a dance. There will be an admission charge of $1.00 <br />per couple, and the proceeds are for the relief association. <br />The Chief of Police recommends two police officers, and one <br />matron in attendance. <br />Mr. Potter moved that the use of the hall be granted. <br />Mr. Locke seconded the motion, and it was so voted. <br />Mr. Paxton read a letter from Mr. R. L. McQuillan, <br />President of the War Parents of America requesting the <br />use of Estabrook Hall on Sunday, January 30, 1944, at <br />2:30 in the afternoon, and again in the evening. <br />Mr. Sarano moved that the use of the hall be granted, <br />free of charge. Mr. Locke seconded the motion, and it was <br />so voted. <br />Mr. Paxton informed the Board that Mr. Cosgrove had <br />made up a list of streets on which he believed the County <br />Commissioners should be petitioned for layouts.
