SELECTMEN'S MEETING <br />January 5, 1970 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the Select- <br />men's Room, Town Office Building, on Monday evening, January 5, 1970, at <br />7:30 P.M. Chairman Cataldo, Messrs. Mabee, Kenney, Greeley and Bailey <br />were present. Mr. Legro, Town Counsel; Mr. Gray, Executive Assistant; <br />Mr. Burke, Superintendent of Public Works; Mr. McSweeney, Town Engineer; <br />Mr. O'Connell, Special Assistant to the Board, and Mrs. McCurdy, Exe- <br />cutive Clerk, were also present. <br />At the request of the Town Clerk, eleven <br />Peter A. Dacey <br />jurors were drawn: <br />32 Ivan Street <br />249 Wood Street <br />297 Emerson Road <br />9 Holmes Road <br />10 Briggs Road <br />28 Stimson Avenue <br />580 Lowell Street <br />33 Skyview Road <br />2 Essex Street <br />49 Cliffe Avenue <br />30 Arcola Street <br />The Chairman informed the Board that Civil Service held an examin- <br />ation for Sealer of Weights and Measures and Richard E. Lupo, 9 Dunham <br />Street, passed the examination and is eligible to be appointed. <br />Mr. Gray said that he had interviewed Mr. Lupo, Electrical Engi- <br />neer for Infoton in Burlington, and as this will be a new field for <br />him, the present Sealer, Mr. Belcastro, will work with him and help. <br />Mr. Gray recommended that the Board appoint Mr. Lupo as Sealer of <br />Weights and Measures, effective February 2, 1970. <br />Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to appoint <br />Richard E. Lupo as Sealer of Weights and Measures at a salary of $125 <br />per month, effective February 2, 1970. <br />3 <br />Jurors <br />Appointment <br />Mr. Legro informed the Board that he would like to discuss the <br />voting machines now held by the Town. He said that in September, 1968, <br />a contract was presented for seven machines, and after considerable <br />negotiations, he had re -drafted the contract and leased seven machines Vote <br />for one year, with the option to purchase them, or any part of that Machines <br />number, by November 15. This year, a new contract was presented for <br />the lease -purchase for a period of ten years, with an option to cut out <br />any number of machines or all machines at any given term. He had found <br />it as objectionable as he had a year ago and wrote back to that effect. <br />While the company was anxious to lease the machines to us over a year <br />ago because they were just sitting in Reading, now it does not want to <br />
