BOARD OF APPEALS <br />June 24, 1976 <br />The Board of Appeals held a regular meeting on Thursday, June 24, 1976, <br />beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town Office <br />Building. Present were: Chairman Nickerson, Vice Chairman Wadsworth, Regular <br />Members: Ruth Morey and Woodruff M. Brodhead; and Associate Member, Haskell W. <br />Reed. Also present were a room full of townspeople, a representative of the <br />League of Women Voters and a Lexington Minute -Man Reporter. <br />Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notices having been <br />mailed to the proper persons and advertised in the newspaper as required by <br />law. <br />Lexington Historical Society - On January 21, 1975 the Lexington Historical <br />Society and Lexington Bicentennial Committee were granted permission to install <br />30 markers to designate the course of three walking tours and were given permis- <br />sion to keep these markers in place until the fall of 1976. They are now peti- <br />tioning to extend the use and keep them in place until the fall of 1978. <br />Dorothy W. Kilpatrick - variance of Section 27 to maintain the residential <br />dwelling at 59 Farmcrest Avenue with sideyards of 7.1 feet instead of the <br />required 7.5 feet. <br />Boston Edison Company - special permit, pursuant to Section 25.23 (buildings and <br />uses for other public services) to construct and install an electrical substa- <br />tion (to be known as substation no. 533) together with associated equipment for <br />transforming, switching and regulating electricity for the purposes heretofore <br />described in Department of Public Utilities docket DPU 18319. The parcel of <br />land is owned by Boston Edison Company, is located on the easterly side of Hart- <br />well Avenue on Maguire Road, is situated within a CM district, contains approxi- <br />mately four acres of land, and is identified as Lot number one on the Town of <br />Lexington Property Map number 80. <br />Jefferson Union Company - special permit to erect a free standing sign in front <br />of the building at 789 Massachusetts Avenue. <br />Lester A. Goldberg - variance for permission to erect and maintain a tower with <br />a height of 100 feet, notwithstanding the provisions of Section 26.56 of the <br />Zoning Bylaw, on Lot 10, 49 Sanderson Road, which lot is currently owned by <br />Village Development Corporation and which applicant has agreed to purchase pur- <br />suant to an agreement dated May 5, 1976. <br />The Board made the following decisions, all in open meeting with spectators <br />remaining to the end to hear the verdicts. See permits for details. <br />Historical Markers - granted unanimously. <br />Kilpatrick - granted unanimously. <br />Boston Edison - granted unanimously. <br />Jefferson Union Co. - denied, 3 in favor, 2 in opposition (Chairman & Vice Chairman). <br />Goldberg - denied 4 to 0 (G.
