BOARD OF APPEALS HEARINGS <br />' January 16, 1975 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Appeals was held on Thursday, January 16, <br />1975 in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town Office Building at 7:30 p.m. <br />Present were: Chairman, D. E. Nickerson; Vice Chairman, G. P. Wadsworth; <br />regular members: W. Brodhead and Ruth Morey; and associate member, Robert <br />Cataldo. Also present were: Petitioners or their representatives, newspaper <br />reporters, League of Women Voters observers, and a room full of townspeople. <br />Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notice having been <br />mailed to the petitioners, to the owners of all property deemed by the Board to <br />be affected thereby as they appear on the most recent local tax list, to town <br />boards, and also advertised in the Lexington Minute -Man. <br />All hearings and decisions were made in open public hearing with specta- <br />tors present. <br />Roland B. Greeley, President of the Lexington Historical Society, representing <br />the Lexington Historical Society and the Lexington Bicentennial Committee - for <br />permission for the installation of three series of historical markers, in east <br />Lexington, in the Munroe-Muzzey area, and in and near Lexington Center. These <br />will serve to guide and interpret a 3 -part "Walking Tour" of Lexington. We <br />anticipate a total of 34 markers, or less, to be used temporarily during the <br />Bicentennial period from about April 1, 1975 to October 31, 1976. <br />Each marker will contain up to 50 words of explanatory material on a sign <br />' 15" x 15" (225 sq. inches); some will also have pictures, in which cases the <br />signs will be 15" x 25". Signs will be of durable plastic material or photo- <br />engraved metal, in contrasting dull tones, of a design to be approved by the <br />Historic Districts Commission, inasmuch as three-fourths of them will be in <br />Historic Districts. Most will be mounted on waist -high concrete pedestals, set <br />back from 5 to 10 feet from the sidewalk or street line. A few may be mounted <br />on free-standing poles, or large trees. one or two,may be affixed to the faces <br />of buildings to which they relate. (see Historic Markers, Board of Appeals' files <br />The 115 Kendall Corporation - special permit pursuant to Section 12.2 that the <br />proposed second floor addition to the existing building numbered 29 Hartwell <br />Avenue will not result in substantial detriment to the neighborhood. The pro- <br />posed use of the addition is installation of mechanical and electronic equip- <br />ment for existing tenant. <br />Paul W. Nelson - special permit pursuant to section 38.2 of the Lexington Zon- <br />ing By-law for the development of 70 dwelling units comprising the first phase <br />of Drummer Boy Green, approved at Town Meeting on May 6, 1974. The development <br />is described in the materials accompanying the application and complies in all <br />respects, according to the petitioner, with the requirements of the RD multi- <br />dwelling district except to the extent that a variance is requested. <br />The property involved is located on Bedford Street and Winter Street, as <br />shown on plan submitted. <br />Having been denied a building permit, the petitioner also requests a vari- <br />ance from the provisions of Section 27 of the Lexington Zoning By-law (Schedule <br />of Dimensional Controls) to permit the minimum distance between buildings to be <br />reduced below the 30 feet required by said section. (According to the Building <br />Inspector in a letter to the Board of Appeals, the petitioner was NOT denied a <br />building permit.) <br />
