BOARD OF APPEALS HEARINGS <br />' June 20, 1972 <br />A regular meeting of the Lexington Board of Appeals was held on Tuesday, <br />June 20, 1972 at 7:30 p.m. in the selectmen's meeting room of the Town Office <br />Building. Present were Chairman Nickerson, regular members Dawes, Sheldon, <br />Wadsworth and Mrs. Morey. <br />Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notice having been <br />mailed to the petitioners, to the owners of all property deemed by the Board <br />to be affected thereby as they appear on the most recent local tax list, to <br />town boards who will or might be affected by decisions made, and also adver- <br />tised in the Lexington Minute -man: <br />Richard F. Galehouse - petition for a variance of the Lexington Zoning By -Law <br />to maintain the present building at 11 Lee Avenue with a front yard of 10 ft. <br />instead of the required 30 ft. and a right side yard of 8 ft. instead of the <br />required 15 ft. and to build an addition 12 ft. by 14 ft. one story high which <br />would have a right side yard of 10 ft. instead of the required 15 ft. <br />Mobil Oil Corporation - petition for permission to erect and maintain a free <br />standing sign on the property located at the corner of Lowell and North streets, <br />being numbered 653 Lowell Street. The sign shall be 8 ft. 2 in. wide and 3 ft. <br />7 in. high and shall be an embossed plastic -faced aluminum framed sign. <br />Illumination shall be provided by interior flourescent lamps. The word "mobil" <br />shall be displayed on each side of the sign. <br />Lexington Arts & Crafts Society. Inc. - petition for a variance of the Lexing- <br />ton Zoning by-law to permit Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, Inc., 130 Waltham <br />Street to build an addition to the existing building in a residential zone with <br />a side yard on the northerly lot line of ten feet instead of the required fif- <br />teen feet and special permission under 25.24 for expansion of the existing per- <br />mitted use. <br />Lexington Gardens, Inc. - petition from Lexington Gardens, Inc., who has an <br />option to acquire the property of S. Arthur Peterson, Inc., 544 Lowell Street. <br />Some building changes will be necessary for effective use of the property for <br />growing purposes. Assurance that these changes may be made is necessary prior <br />to the option being exercised. Proposal: removal of one 21 ft. by 100 ft. <br />twenty year old greenhouse and the attached showroom -office structure, and <br />their replacement with a lancscaped, painted cement block 40 ft. by 100 ft. <br />structure. The structures being removed were designed and used as a growing <br />area, showroom, office, potting area and furnace area. The new structure, <br />which will be set back from the road approximately 12 ft. farther than the <br />current structure, will be used as a greenhouse area, garage and furnace room. <br />Following the hearings the Board made the following decisions, all in open <br />meeting and all unanimous: <br />Robert Graves - petition for <br />a variance to <br />allow for the <br />temporary parking of <br />' <br />not more than 15 automobiles <br />on the rear portion of the <br />lot located at 903 <br />Waltham Street. The area to <br />be used shall <br />be fenced and <br />there shall be no <br />lighting. The vehicles to be <br />parked shall <br />be legally registered <br />automobiles <br />which are awaiting repairs. <br />The applicant <br />has an option <br />to lease the area to <br />be used. <br />Lexington Arts & Crafts Society.
