CZi'
s ,
BOARD OF APPEALS
NOVEMbER 2, 1934.
A meeting of the Board of Appeals was held at the
Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, on Friday, Nov-
ember 2, 1934 at 8:00 P. M. Messrs. Glynn, Ferguson, and Hatch
were present. The Secretary was also present..
In theabsenceof the Chairman, Mr. C. E. Glynn was
elected as Chairman. Pro -tem and in the absence of the Clerk,
Mr. Hatch was elected as Clerk.
Mr. Glynn called the hearing and the Clerk rro-tem
read the notice of the hearing as published in the Lexington
Minute -Man.
Mrs. Garfield was present and stated that she had not a
great deal to say other than that she applied for a permit
for the sale of antiques in the house at 259 Bedford Street
and that she intended to use the house as a home just as she
doesather home in West Concord if shp buys the place. She
has sold antiques at Barnstable, Smtw%h and Monument Beach.
'She sells furniture and glass. She would not have any display
except in the summer time she would like to have the barn open
for the unfinished things. She had no idea of putting
furniture in the yard except possibly a spinning wheel which
she considered a part of the sign. She would have a sign,
not an objectionable one, but one that would be large enough
'
to be seen in a large yard like this one was. She thought
it should be a wide as the Selectmen's table and a little
longer the other way.
Mr. Glynn inquired if she had any facilities for parking
automobiles and she stated that there are two driveways,
one this side of the house and the other the other side
near the barn and she planned to keep them open.
Mr. McIntosh could not come himself but he was represented
by one of his agents. He stated that of course they were
anxious to sell the pro, erty and felt that business should
be allowed there because there is business across the street
and next to -the property. He also stated that Mrs. Garfield
came well recommended and that he canvassed the territory
and found.no objection.
Mr. Andrews, an attorney from Winchester, was present and
stated that he had known Mrs. Garfield for a number of
years and he knew both Mr. and Mrs. Garfield to be of the
highest type of people and he wished they were coming to
Winchester to sell antiques. Their home had the same
appearance of any home -except for one room where the glass
was. He recouLnended them very highly.
Mrs. Garfield stated that the intended to buy this house
but if..she...could not use if for antiques she would not
purchase it as it was too large for her own use.
