116
Lamont re-
quest for
investiga-
tion of
depts.
SELECTMEN'S MEETING, MARCH 200 1940.
A special meeting of the Board of Selectmen was hold in
the Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building, at 5t00 P. M.
Chairman Giroux and Messrs. Potter and Sarano were preaeth.
The Clerk was also present.
The Chairman said that Mr. Harold B. Lia ont, in a tele-
phone conversation with him, asked if the Selectmen would
submit -a motion under Article Two i5S the Warrant for the
March 26th Town Meeting for the naming of a Committee of
Citizens to make a general investigation of Town. Departments,
with the idea that suggestion for economies might result. ,>
The Board of Selectmen, after considerat lb discussion was
of the opinion that such a motion on its part would be prac-
tioally a statement of its lack of faith in the Town De•
partmentsf therefor, it felt that if there was a desire for
such a Committee, that the idea and the motion should be
presented by the Town Meeting gLembers themselves.
Mr. Saran said that there was a low section in Downing
Road near Outlook Drive. Prospect Hill Road is an accepted
street, but has no drainage, and surface wster flows down
from Prospect Hill Road onto Downing Road, whibh is unacc-
epted. This causes flooding of the street. There are two
catch basins on DowningRoad, but theft seem to be clogged
up. Mr. Sarano said that some of the people were unable
tor;get fuel and other types of service because of the con-
dition. He said that, considering the fact that the water
Flooding was flowing from an accepted street, and the damage being
Downing Rd.done, he felt that something should be done to remedy the
situation. Mr. Sarano moved that the Selectmen, a cting as
the Board of Health, declare that an emergency exists, and
that Mr. win. C. Paxton, Supt, of the Hik#way Division, be
instructed to clean out the two latch basins on Downing
Road eo that the w ater might escape. Mr. Potter seconded
the motion, and it was so voted.
The meeting adjourned at 5:07 P M.
A true record, Att6st;
Clem„
J
'e
1
1
