1 <br />1 <br />Inspector. Mr. Giroux seconded the motion and it was <br />so voted. <br />Hearing was declared open at 8:08 P.M. on the <br />application of the Edison Electric I11. Co. of Boston <br />for permission to set seven poles on Watertown Street, <br />northwesterly from Cambridge -Concord Highway. The <br />Board voted to grant the permit. <br />14M <br />Pole <br />location. <br />At 8;15 P.M., Mr. Arthur M. Roberts, his Attorney <br />John A. Lyons and Mr. W rightington, appeared before the <br />Board to discuss the matter of Mr. Robertst hen -yard. <br />Mr. Lyons stated that Mr. Bidwell complained of the <br />nuisance because of a personal grievance. <br />Mr. Roberts stated that there never had been a <br />complaint made to him of the nuisance or annoyance by <br />his neighbors. He stated that there had been herd <br />and roosters kept on the property for the last 100 years <br />or more, but he would be glad to eliminate the roosters. <br />He 'talked with his neighbors on Sunday and they all <br />agreed that if he would eliminate them that they would <br />withdraw all complaints. He established the poultry <br />business last year to help out his brother-in-law who is <br />in the hen business, and of course it helps Roberts out <br />also. He did not want to annoy his neighbors. He <br />presented a letter stating that there would be no <br />objection if the roosters were eliminated which was signed <br />by the following: Messrs. Graves, Chiesa, Porter, Doodwin, <br />Potter, Mrs, Richard Rowse and Miss Blodgett. <br />The Chairman read a letter from Mr. Goodwin retracting <br />his approval and Mr. Potter retracted his aprr oval. <br />`Mr. Giroux asked Mr. Roberts what he had to say on <br />the complaint on the flies and odor. Roberts stated that <br />a year ago the people who were objecting now complained Roberts <br />against the flies and odor and they tried to get a com- poultry <br />plaint from Dr. Barnes who investigated conditions. farm <br />However, he reported definitely that there was no possible <br />reason for complaint and said that everything was in a <br />sanitary condition, that there was no odor and no breeding <br />of flies. He stated that he could=dlit1natw the lighting <br />at night. <br />The Chairman stated that the way the matter stood now, <br />Roberts had been advised to abate the violation of the <br />Town By-law and he had agreed to do this. The other part <br />of the complaint, that in regard to the health menace, he <br />said had been turned over to the Health Inspector for <br />report and that the Selectmen would abide by his decision. <br />If he reports that there is no health menace, the neigh- <br />bors have recourse to the Courts. Ar. Roberts stated <br />that the roosters did crow in the middle of the night. <br />He stated that he could get rid of the roosters by May 1st <br />blgt he would rather have until May 15th. <br />
