Land Acquisition
Karen Simmons reviewed the proposal coming before the Community Preservation Committee
and Town Meeting for the purchase of the Busa Farm property on Lowell Street. She told the
Recreation Committee that negotiations between the Town and the owners of the property had
moved quickly and a tentative agreement had been reached. The Town Manager expects that the
Letter of Intent will be submitted and signed in time for the Wednesday, May 6 session of Town
Meeting. The Community Preservation Committee meets on Tuesday, May 5 to discuss and vote
on the proposal, followed by a second public hearing for abutters and information session for
TMMA members.
Rick DeAngelis asked the Recreation Committee members if they were willing to support the
proposal. The general consensus of the Committee members was favorable. He also noted that
the Recreation Department and Town are in dire need of additional field space.
Dick Thuma asked if the property were to be purchased with specific uses in mind, as shown on
the concept plans shown in past meetings, or if it were a two step process to first acquire the land
and add community housing and then develop the area for recreation and open space purposes.
Karen Simmons responded that there would be a process followed that would be established by
the Board of Selectmen, which would include the development of a Master Plan for the site.
The funding for the Master Plan is included in the monetary request to the CPC and Town
Meeting.
1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420
