M, <br />REGULAR MEETING, MARCH 6,'1928. <br />' k regular meeting of the hoard of Selectmen was held at the <br />Selectmen's Office at 7:30 P.L. Messrs. Burnham Custance, Ballard, <br />Robertson, and Chamberlain were present. The Supt. of Public ;'.'orks <br />and the Clerk were also present. <br />Hearing was declared open upon the petition of the Edison Elec. <br />Ill. Co. and the N. E. Tel. & Tel. Co. for joint location of poles <br />on Meriam Street southeasterly from Adams Street. No persons appeared <br />to object, and it was voted to grant the petition. <br />Mr. Walter G. Black and Galt F. Parsons of the Committee on <br />Housing the Fire Alarm a-;-�paratus came before the Board at the Board's <br />request. They stated that they had not had a meeting, and that they <br />had no suggestions to offer. The Board requested that they come <br />before them at the meeting on Tuesday evening next. <br />John W. Leary together ,-tith his attorney, Daniel J. OTConnell <br />came before the Board in response to their request that Mr. Leary <br />appear before them. The Board informed Mr. Leary that they had <br />had complaint that one of his men was driving a taxi while under the <br />influence of liquor, and that they wished to call the matter to his <br />attention. Inasmuch as complaint had been received they felt that <br />they should call the matter to his attention as they are responsible <br />for granting him a license to operate a_public carriage. <br />Mr. O'Connell stated that Mr. Leary discharged two of his <br />men before receiving the letter from the Board. These two men, he felt, <br />were indulging in liquor and it may be that one of these men was the <br />.one the complaint was Pbout. <br />The Chief of Police came before the Board at the request of the <br />Board to give a report as to i=;hat had been done in regard to the <br />restraint of dogs. He premented a report from Mr. Maguire as to <br />the visits he had made inasmuch as the Chief had designated him to <br />take care of the dogs. He stated that all the Police Officers did <br />this work while on duty, but that Mr. Maguire investigated all calls <br />of compl^ints of stray dogs. The Chief was requested to bring in <br />a statement as to just how many dogs had been killed, and how many <br />had been brought in and reclaimed, etc, the same to cover the period <br />of dog restraint order which v, -Ill expire on -;arch 15, 1928. <br />Suggestion was made to the Chief that he have printed a report <br />of all the work done on dogs in the local paper. <br />Letter was received from the Chiu of Police in regard to the <br />complaint of Mrs. Ida H. B. Capper sta ing that he had made investi- <br />gation and could not find anyone who attempted to do any damage on <br />the Capper premises. The Board decided to send Mrs. C_•.pper a copy <br />of the Report which had been received. <br />It <br />wass voted <br />to <br />appoint the <br />following <br />as the April <br />19th Com- <br />mittee, <br />7illiam F, <br />Youn;, <br />EUward <br />L. Child, <br />and Converse <br />Hill. <br />
