199 <br />REGULfiR MEETING__, FEBRUARY 7, 1928. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the <br />Selectmen's Office at 8.00 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Burnham, Ballard, <br />Robertson, and Chamberlain were present. The Supt. of Public Works, <br />the Clerk, and the Clerk pro -tem, were also present. <br />Mr. Henry H. Kitson, Mr. Ezra F. Breed, Captain of the Minute <br />Men, and Mr. John E. Gilcreast came before the Board and presented a <br />plan of Hastings Park, where they desire to place a Memorial to the <br />Minute Men of Lexington. Mr. Breed requested that an article be <br />inserted in the warrant for the annual Town Meeting whereby the Town <br />will grant this park as a site for said memorial, and the Board voted <br />to insert same. <br />The Board signed the warrant for the annual Town Sleeting to <br />be held march 5, 1928. <br />Harold Michelson came before the Board in regard to the appli- <br />cation of Isadore J. Michelson to erect a sign at his store at 470 <br />Mass. Avenue overhanging the sidev:ralk. He was informed that when <br />the Board had taken the matter up, he would be notified of their <br />action. <br />In connection with this matter, Dr. Shannon of the Board of Trade <br />came before the Board to report that the matter had been brought to <br />' their attention because it was felt that a business man's rights were <br />being interferred with. He stated that as the matter had just been <br />presented, the Board of Trade did not have sufficient time to go into <br />the subject thoroughly and it had been left pending by them. It was <br />suggested that a meeting of the Board of Selectmen be held with the <br />Board of Trade to go into the matter further. <br />The Town .Engineer presented a sketch of all the signs in the <br />Town which project over the sidewalk, showing the size of the sign, <br />the distance it extends over the sidewalk, and the height of the <br />sign from the sidewalk. He was requested to have blue prints made of <br />the sketch for the information contained thereon was very helpful. <br />The Board voted to grant Mr.Mi.chelson permission to erect his <br />sign provided that he complies .with the requirement of filing a <br />bond, and also if he is willing to sign an agreement stating that <br />when the Board of Selectmen request that all signs must be removed, <br />he agrees to remove his sign. <br />It was also voted to notify Mr. Rufus W. Blake that he could <br />erect a sign on his store at 446 Mass. Avenue if he complies with <br />the requirement of filing a bond and also signs an agreement ID <br />remove his sign when requested by the Board of Selectmen. <br />It was decided to request Mr. L"Irightington, Town Counsel, to <br />give his opinion in regard to having rules drawn up regulating the <br />erection of signs that overhang sidewalks, as it*was found that <br />Chapter 85, Sections 8 and 9 of the General Lavas give the Selectmen <br />the right to make rules gaweMing same. <br />' The Supt. of Public Works was requested to procure Fules from <br />surrounding towns in regard to signs overhanging sidewalks. <br />p Letter was received from Edward C. Stone in regard to whether <br />the Town should purchase mutual insurance. In connection with this <br />matter the Clerk was requested to secure the opinion of Mr. Harry <br />Stone, President of the Lumber Mutual ''ire Ins. Co., and Judge Prescott <br />
