24 <br />REGULAR MEETING, .MARCH 8, 1927. <br />O <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at the , <br />Selectmen's Office, at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Burnham, <br />Ballard, Robertson, and Chamberlain were present. The Supt. of <br />Public Works and the Clerk were also present. <br />The records of last meeting were approved. <br />Mr. Theodore A. Custance and "Lr..Francis Chamberlain, the <br />newly elected members of the Board were sworn :to the faithful <br />performance of their duties by the Assistant Town Clerk. <br />In regard to the designation of departments to each member <br />of the Board, it was decided to have each member go over the same <br />during week before the designations were made at the next meeting <br />on Tuesday evening. - <br />Mr. Thomas Kelly came before the Board and inquired whether <br />or not the Town carried liability insurance on the highways and <br />sidewalks. He was informed that the Town did not carry this form <br />of insurance. <br />He stated that his Doy fell on the sidewalk adjacent to the <br />Cary Memorial Library property and was injured. He was taken to <br />Dr. Harrington's office by Police Officer O'Leary and several <br />stitches were taken in his hand. He stated that he felt if the <br />Town had insurance they would take care of the bill for medical care. <br />The Board informed ter. Kelly that they would like to receive , <br />a statement of the details of the accident from him in writing, and <br />would then pass the same over to the Town Counsel to see whether <br />they were liable or not. Mr. Kelly agreed to send in detailed state- <br />ment of the accident. <br />Augustine Monaghan and John F. McKearney came before the Board <br />to see if they could possibly get the extension of' a water main on <br />Grant Street. They were requested to talk the matter over with <br />Mr. Albert A. Ross, Supt. of the Water Dept., to see what might be <br />done in regard to this extension. No provision has been made for <br />an appropriation for this extension in 1927. <br />Mr. John F. Tibbetts, Building Inspector, came before the Board <br />in regard to the enforcement of the Zoning Law on roadside stands. <br />He stated that he had received an opinion from the Town Counsel that <br />he sgould enforce the Zoning Law by refusing to allow the roadside <br />stands to do business. He stated that parties operating the stands <br />selling vegetables raised on their own premises also sold products <br />from other places, and unless the sections were business sections, <br />he did not believe this should be done. The Board informed Mr. Tibbetts <br />that unless instructions were received from them they did not believe <br />that it was dis duty to decide whether or not roadside stands should <br />be operated. <br />The Board instructed the Clerk to secure a list of roadside <br />stands in the town which operated last season. ' <br />Special Police commission was signed for Edward I. Hart. <br />In regard to the appointment of the Board of Assessors, the <br />Board consulted the present Board of Assessors, who were in session, <br />
