31"7 <br />SPECIAL MEETING, YfiY 40 1926. <br />�. A` spetlial meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in' the <br />Seleotmen�s Roan, Town Hall, Lexington on Tuesday, May 40 19269 at <br />7:30 P.M. Messrs. Custance, Burnham, Miles, Robertson, and .Ballard <br />were present; the Superintendent of Public Works and the clerk were <br />Also present. P <br />Attention Was called to the fact %hat the permit granted to <br />John C. Phelps to maintain a garage for the storage for cars and <br />Bales and service station on Bedford Street also gave him permission <br />to install inside of the building, a 500 gallon gasoline tank, <br />Mr. Phelps requested that this permit be changed so that his ineur- <br />anee rates would be lower, thereby saving him about $50.00 per year. <br />It was therefor voted to grant Mr. Phelps permission to install the <br />galaoline tank outside of the- building on the side entrance. <br />Abatement slip for the Water Department in the amount of $61.92 <br />was signed by the Board. <br />A 1+ tger was reoeived from Fred W. Miller of Winthrop Road in <br />which he enclosed photographic copy of letter received from his <br />attorney giving opinion that Mr. Miller was entitled to damages on <br />account of the stagnant water on his property. <br />In the warrant for the Town Meeting, May 12, request is being <br />' made for an appropriation to cover the cost of the drainage work in <br />this section. Mr. Miller was informed to this effect. <br />Mr. Pitt F. Drew, President of the Middlesex & Boston St. Ry. <br />Co., having been requested to come before the Board to discuss what <br />action his company is willing to take to give service on the State <br />Road to the parties desiring same and who were present at the hearing <br />a week ago, appeared at 8:30 P.M. quite unexpected a number of <br />residents in the vicinity of the State Road again appeared before the <br />Board to request that the Lovell Bus Line, Inc, be given permission <br />to operate their busses on the State Road. Mr. Lovell together with <br />his attorney, Mr. Howard, also appeared, as did Dr. Glazier, repre- <br />sentative.of the Hudson Board of Trade. The Board again adjourned to <br />Cary Hall so that all persons present could be seated. <br />Mr. Edward S, Payson, resident of the State Road, spoke very <br />favorably toward the proposition of the Lovell Bus Line. Jospeh R• <br />Cotton called upon the Lovell Bus Line, Inc. to give statements of <br />what they intended to do, and Mr. Howard informed the meeting that <br />they proposed to run hourly from Concord to Arlington Heights and to <br />give art express service of from four to six trips a day from Leominster, <br />to Arlington Heights, the first bus to leave Arlington Heights at 6:30 <br />in the morning and the lest bus at 11:45 at night. He stated that they <br />would not agree to place busses on for two or three months and then re- <br />port that they did not pay, but, on the other hand, were willing to <br />guarantee that they would give service for some time to cane. Keil <br />McIntosh Again urged the necessity of the line over the State Road to <br />Arlington Heights. Dr. Glazier also urged that the Selectmen consider <br />the towns above them and give this throw++ service. He presented a <br />written statement from the Hudson Board of Trade urging that the Lovell <br />Bus Line be granted a permit. <br />Mr. Drew states' that he was not ready to make a proposition to the <br />Board relative to service, but desired to know what the Selectmen wanted <br />
