244 <br />MEETING, JUNE 239 1925. ' <br />A meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the <br />Selectmen's Room, Town Hall, Lexington, on Tuesday, June 23, <br />1925, at 7 P. M. The following members of the Board were <br />present, Messrs. Hutchinson, Burnham, Moulton, Custance and <br />Burnham were present. <br />Letter was written to Samuel J. Hume, Director of the <br />Lexington Pageant of 1925 and the same was presented to him <br />on this evening; The letter read as follows; <br />it June 23, 1925. <br />Samuel J. Hume, Esq., <br />Lexington, Massachusetts., <br />Dear Sir; <br />The Board of Selectmen of Lexington, Massachusetts, <br />beg to notify you that at a meeting of the Board held <br />June 23, 1925 the following preambles and resolutions <br />were unanimously adopted. ' <br />"WHEREAS, the Citizens of Lexington have been <br />charmed by the personality and inspired by the leader- <br />ship of Samuel J. Hume, Director of the 'Pageant of <br />Lexington of 1925', who has lived among them and worked <br />with them for many months: and <br />"WHEREAS, the Citizens of Lexington recognize their <br />iddebtedness to him for his assistance in their efforts to <br />commemorate appropriately the 150th Anniversary of the <br />Battle of Lexington, and <br />"WHEREAS, the Board of Selectmen of Lexington, Mass- <br />achusetts, desire to express to him their personal appre- <br />ciation thereof and to•extend to him a cordial invitation <br />to visit the Town at his pleasure it the future: <br />"RESOLVED: that the Board of Selectmen, by virtue <br />of and to the extent only that power may have been con- <br />ferred upon them for the purpose, do hereby constitute <br />Samuel J. Hume as Honorary Citizen of the Town of Lexing- <br />ton and as such grant him the freedom of the Town of <br />Lexington in perpetuity." <br />Very respectfully, ' <br />J.
