L' L <br />KEETI"_<G, LAY S . 1923. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen and Public dorke <br />was held in the Selectmen's Room, Town Hall, Lexington, on Tuesday, <br />Yay 8th, 1923, at 8:00 r. L,. The following members of the Board <br />were present, namely. Levers. Scamman, Blake, Burnham and Hutchinson. <br />The Town Clerk, The Ase't Town Clerk and the Town Counsel were also <br />present. <br />Phomas J. Doherty of 185 Maes. Ave. was duly drawn as a Juror. <br />Leonard K. Dunham of 'd;oburn Street, one of the Slaughter Ins- <br />pectors, came before the Board to question them about the appoint- <br />ment of Charles A.Walley as Inspector of Slaughtering. <br />The Chairman informed him that the Board did appoint ':-'r. Malley <br />as Inspector. when George A. '+Varner, regular Inspector, was drawn <br />as a Juror; that his appointment, however, was not approved by the <br />State Department of Animal Industry and that if he stamped some <br />carcasses before his appointment was passed upon by the State Depart- <br />ment, this was a mistake upon the part of Kr. +'valley which cannot be <br />rectified now. <br />Mr. Dunham cautioned the Board about any further mistakes of <br />this kind as he considered it a serious matter. <br />W <br />1 <br />Mr. Edward Bunzel of last Street, came before the Board to ' <br />see if he could secure hie Slaughter License. The appropriation <br />for Inspectors of Slaughtering having been laid on the table at <br />the Town Meeting, and the question having arisen as to whether <br />or not the Slaughterere should not have to pay more toTrard the <br />cost of Inspection, and in the mean time licensee to slaughter <br />having expired, Mr. Bunzel made a plea for a temporary permit. <br />He was informed by the Town Counrel, that the Board had the right <br />to issue such temporary permit. <br />Town Counsel called attention to Chapter 94, .Section 119 of <br />the General Lawe which provides that the Selectmen may issue licensee. <br />Under that Chapter the Board may charge $100 for the fee. Chapter <br />111, Section 151, provides that no building may be occupied -or used <br />as a Slaughter house, without a written permit from the Board, for <br />which the Board may charge any amount. <br />The Board, however. agreed to as.,_:,o have ti.e ratter taken <br />from the table at the Town Meeting and when the action def the meeting <br />is determined they will e;ain take the matter up at their Selectmente <br />meeting. <br />Kr. Bunzel showed willingness to cooperate with the Board so <br />that he could obtain his license. kr. Young and kr. Holman were not <br />present, althoupj-, reque eted to be by ,Zr. Bunzel. <br />Joseph L. Zuretti, John Rose, Charles H. Franks and Carl L. <br />Nelson came before the Board in regard to Public Carriage License <br />Bonds that are required to be filed un•'er the regulations of the , <br />Board passed in 1920. <br />Mr. Zuretti explained that in Brookline or Boston taxi <br />drivers were not compelled to file a bond, and he therefor did not <br />see any reason why they should be forced to in Lexington.
