16 c <br />MEETING, FEB. 13, 1923. ' <br />Messrs. Seaman, Blake and Burnham Present. <br />In place of Lester R. Redman, resigned. from the April 19th <br />Committee, Ezra F. Breed was appointed. <br />Mr. Neil McIntosh came before the Board with a plan which was <br />revised in a compromise between Mr. Duffy'a plan* and his own. <br />Mr. McIntosh was requested to leave the plan until the Board <br />considered same and they would let him know their decision at a <br />later date. <br />In regard to the appointment of Mr. Toys as Registrar of <br />Voters, the Board decided to get the opinion of the Town Counsel <br />as to whether or not he is eligible. <br />Letter was received from Edwin A. Bayley giving his opinion <br />that the By -Laws were legally published in the Lexington Minute - <br />Man. <br />He also suggested that if there was any doubt in the minds of <br />the Selectmen that this was true that articles be inserted in the <br />Warrant for the annual meeting which would clear up the situation. <br />He also suggested the articles for the warrant. <br />The Board requested the town counsel's opinion as to whether <br />or not the articles presented by Mr. Bayley in his letter will <br />clear up the situation, and request that he draw one that will <br />so far as possible if these do not. <br />Two applications for advertising signs were received. The <br />Clerk was directed to turn the same over to Mr. Duffy for his ad- <br />vice on same. <br />Notice was received from Chief of Police, Edward Leavitt, in <br />which he inform -el the Board that Edward C. Maguire was absent <br />from duty owing to an operation for appendicitis. In this con- <br />nection the Board found that the reguletions adopted at the meet- <br />ing allowed one half pay for patrolmen on account of illness. The <br />Board therefor notified Mr. Leavitt that Mr. Maguire should re- <br />ceive pelf pay during his illness. <br />Letter was received from the Chief of the Fire Department in <br />which he enclosed copy of letter sent to the Chairman of the <br />School Department asking that certain changes be made at the Old <br />Adams School building to make the building safe for occupancy. <br />The Board acknowledged receipt of letter and also wrote a let- <br />ter to the School Department in which they requested that the <br />changes suggested be made. <br />Letter was received from Francis H. Allen of Ho,aghton Mifflin <br />Co. asking for permission to reproduce in photogravure the por- <br />trait of Earl Percy in the Cary Memorial Library in a book to be <br />1 <br />1 <br />
