Lexington Human Rights Committee
Meeting Minutes
December 21, 2008

Present: Richard Capron, Fuang-Ying Huang, Hank Manz, Leona Martin, Joseph
O’Leary, Albert Zabin and Bob Kent.

Meeting at Meeting Room 111 in Town Hall was called to order at 7:45AM

It was a productive meeting with a lot of ideas to promote HRC and to carry out its
mission:
To participate and support solidarity events both in Lexington and other
o
communities.
Condemn the use of the name of Minute Men by hate/intolerance groups for
o
vigilante activities such as the border patrol in the south.
Sponsor an educational program to celebrate the first African American president
o
both at schools and in the community. Minute Man Regional High is having a
two-day program around the inauguration day and Bob will look into it so
Lexington schools may have something similar if LPS hasn’t already have
plan(s). The program is to focus on Lexington’s change in diversity through out
the years, to include personal experience of Lexington resident and the
significance of the election on the first African American president to them.
Adapt the “One on One” format of pairing up with a person of different ethnic
o
background to learn about different cultures. We can utilize Lexington Historical
Society on this project. This can also be part of the Lexmedia’s program.
To educate general public on people with disabilities. While people have good
o
intentions, they don’t always know how to interact with people with disabilities.
Have a “Lexington HRC” banner made for visibility in events that HRC
o
participates or sponsors.

The next meeting is on January 9, 2009 at 7:30 AM in Rm 111. The meeting will focus
on strategic planning on those programs.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:15 am.
