<br />Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />September 19, 2008 <br /> <br />Present: Richard Capron, Helen Cohen, Puran Dang, Fuang-Ying Huang, Deborah <br />Jackson, Hank Manz, Leona Martin, Joseph O’Leary, Linda Vine, and Bob Kent. <br /> <br />Meeting at the Selectman’s Meeting Room was called to order at 8:10AM <br /> <br />Meeting started with committee members introducing themselves to the group. While <br />Bob and Hank said their moving to Lexington were “accidental”, Leona said that her <br />family moved to Lexington for its schools and the family friendly environment. <br /> <br />Deborah went on to clarify the roles of the officers with Linda. It was followed by the <br />discussion of how to let townspeople know about the committee and its mission. The <br />following were suggested: <br />?? <br />Utilize Lexington Select Program <br />?? <br />Ask Mary Lou at Minuteman to write an article about HRC, Linda also suggested <br />that Hank write an article for Minuteman and Joe suggested the article to include <br />a brief bio on committee members <br />?? <br />Selectman announcement on HRC <br />?? <br />Programs/activities such as LexFest to reach different ethnic groups and <br />neighborhood. <br />?? <br />Grass root activities to create a sense of community for different ethnic groups. <br />Puran shared the community activities in India they called “Emotional <br />Integration” <br />rd <br />?? <br />A “3 Place” contest (as followed by family, school/work places) for Lexington <br />residents to find places where they can feel a sense of community. These <br />gathering places are not limited to modern days’ places; they can be places in the <br />recent history. <br /> <br />Richard brought up the delicacy of interaction among different ethnic groups in the <br />neighborhood. Joe suggested building relations among neighbors as people are more <br />inclined to interact and help those whom they know. <br /> <br />While Leona wishes there were more neighborhood activities to bring the neighbors <br />together, Fuang shared the experience of the annual Sunday pancake breakfast on <br />Turning Mill Rd with the committee. <br /> <br />Deborah went on to nominated Albert Zabin for Chairman, Bob Kent for Vice Chair and <br />Fuang-Ying Huang for Clerk of HRC. The committee members then voted. <br /> <br />Linda will list the action items for committee members. <br /> <br />The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:15 am. <br />
