Lexington Human Rights Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />January 9, 2009 <br />Present: Richard Capron, Fuang -Ping Huang, Hank Manz, Leona Martin, Joseph <br />O'Leary, Puran Dang, Bob Kent, Helen Cohen and Linda Vine <br />Guest: Sunila Thomas - George, Commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission <br />Against Discrimination <br />Meeting was held in the Board of Selectmen's Meeting Room, and was called to order at <br />7:35 am. <br />The following was decided upon during the meeting: <br />• Write an article for the Minuteman paper to highlight the various community <br />events focused on the Presidential Inauguration. Bob has agreed to draft the <br />article to include event happenings in the following locations: <br />*Minuteman Technical High School <br />* Lexington Public Schools <br />*Cary Memorial Library <br />* Town Hall <br />* Department of Human Services (Senior Center) <br />Helen will contact the editor to let him know that the committee would like the <br />article to be in the guest commentary section of the paper. <br />• Participation of the LHRC in the planned Martin Luther King, Jr. event scheduled <br />for Sunday, January 18 Joe will speak with the event planner to see if we can <br />carry a banner promoting the existence of the newly formed committee. Bob will <br />develop a page to include in the book being sent to the Obama Family. <br />• Create a banner for the LHRC, Hank will find a vendor and Linda will secure <br />funding, with the goal to have this ready by 1/18/09 event. <br />• Cary Memorial Library concern raised regarding customer service. Linda will <br />arrange a meeting with Director Connie Rawson and others to discuss the <br />circumstances. <br />• Decision to plan a larger program sometime in April to celebrate victories along <br />the way, but in a framework of what still remains to be done. Helen suggested <br />that the program include the American Asian perspective on the panel. <br />• Commissioner Thomas — George provided an overview of the Massachusetts <br />Commission Against Discrimination for the group. <br />
